With my son it's often a frustration or something everyone else would think is a positive thing but for him is a negative, such as offering help to him. It can be when he doesn't get enough sleep, when he eats too much of the wrong stuff, a combination of things... There are so many things I've seen that can set him off, usually something that makes sense (from his perspective) because of a communication issue and what other factors were already involved.

Not that it helps much but I really think these aspergers kids react to things based on how they understand the world around them. It could be a simple trigger that upsets your child. I've only discovered a few with my son and the offering help seems to be the big one.

Hi everyone. i was just wondering if antyone else's aspergers child has

cyclic mood swings. My 7 year old son has very distinct cycles of about

3 weeks of having his obsessions etc but not too bad and then about 3

weeks of hell where he is very violent to me, has endless meltdowns,

says he wants to die and will do nothing he is asked. Does anyone else

have this?

Thanks for answering.I think he sounds bipolar too and from all the American literature he fits it exactly and the faster he is diagnosed the better. One therapist laughed at me when |I mentioned it and said there was no such thing as child onset bipolar. The psychiatrist didn't quite say that but said he was too young to diagnose but was at risk. The school home liason lady seems to think there is nothing much wrong despite me showing her bite marks, bruises and scratches. In reception he said he wanted to die and tried to self-harm in school but he shows less of this in class now. The head mistress did finally admit he seemed "disturbed" and needed help. They are helping him for his dyspraxia but that is it. I am holding out for this proper diagnosis and if I don't I seriously don't

know what i will do. I no longer talk to my sister because of him (we never have got on well) and my parents don't know how to handle him and don't seem to want to learn. Least my close friends understand.

Sounds bipolar to me (I am not a physician however, just a mom to several

" special " kids 24//7). Have you read The Bipolar Child by Papadopalous (or

something like that - LOL!)? It was very helpful to us! Our son has had

co-diagnoses for a long time, starting when he was 5.

Yes, my son also has cyclic mood swings. Medication has helped,

though we have yet to see whether his traditionally worse time

(February) will be different this year. His psychiatrist is

not ready to diagnose him as bipolar but it is a possibility.

Is that medication for Aspergers or ADHD? As far as I am aware there is

no medication for Aspergers. How long are his cycles? Has anyone

suggested bipolar to you?

My son is on medication for ADHD...Adderall...and Prozac for depression...he was also on Resperdol (spelling?) ...for anger....but I took him off the resperdol because of the weight gain....and we are trying to manage the anger with behavior modification and therapy. There is no one drug out there just for aspergers...

Have you ever tried one of those lamps that give off sunlight...if your son has a hard time in February...maybe it has to do with the weather/sunlight...I know I get more depressed in the winter as there is not much sunlight....those grey ugly days in Feb. are very depressing. I just go myself on of the lamps...I wanted it also for my crafts..it is a different type of light ...maybe it will help....I didn't pay much for mine....and I do like it.

As I wrote above, a bipolar diagnosis is being considered but hasn't

been made yet. The medication he's on is Tenex and its purpose is

to improve impulse control and decrease anxiety. It's been very

effective and has improved all our lives tremendously. My biggest

fear is it will stop working. :-\

Crazy mood swings at first because I felt so crappy trying to deal with 3 small

children. Anxiety and depression kinda just goes with candida and the healing

process....I've been on it a year and that is what I have experienced. I am

doing better slowly with each month that goes by it seems but I have had alot of

extra stress. Thats my two cents.

Hi,

What is your name?

I recall I had those at first on the new diet, but then that was one of the

symptoms I'd been having for a year or so that I hoped to alleviate. After

starting the diet, I think they continued for a few weeks and then started

to go away. I didn't have them for too long.
