Not sure what it says about me.Harvey Pekar, another cartoonist, has some asperger traits, though that doesn't seem to be his diagnosis so much as OCD. He did a comic book called American Splendor. A film was made of it. The comic book is biographical as is the film. One of Harvey's best friends, Toby, is definitely on the spectrum. American Splendor is not for kids either, but it's not disturbing like some of Crumb's stuff. It just covers some adult topics. Harvey's wife seems to like diagnosing people. I don't doubt she has some asperger traits too. The film American Splendor contains some real life interviews with Harvey and his wife but through most of the film Giamatti plays Harvey.Has anyone here seen Snow Cake? What do you think. I saw it because I just LOVE Alan Rickman. LOL. Yeah, ask me about MY asperger tendencies some time. Anyway, I found out about the film on one of my Alan Rickman and was gleeful to see my favorite actor in a film in which his character befriends a woman who has high functioning autism (played by sigourney weaver). I think it's a really good film. It's complete fiction though the woman who wrote the screenplay has a young son who has autism. Critics said S. Weaver did a lousy job, but I don't think any of the critics have kids on the spectrum. I thought she was fantastic and I can see so much of my son in the character she played!! It made me laugh and cry.Mozart and the Whale is another one. Josh Harnett plays a guy with asperger syndrome. It's a love story. I think it's based on a real person. He meets his love interest at a group he started for people who are different. She's quite aspie too.Anyway, maybe these have already been discussed here but I thought I should bring it up.Miriam> > > > From: ghoolsby <ghoolsby@>> > Subject: ( ) Please see American Masters > Schulz documentary> > > > Date: Friday, December 26, 2008, 11:15 AM> > > > > > > > > > > > > > PBS is showing the American Masters documentary on Schulz. Guest guest
Mozart and the Whale was written by Jerry Newport. I saw him speak at a conference a few years ago and he fascinated me.
