Guest guest
Hi everyone I read the Christmas poem and thought it was brilliant - so true! We got our diagnosis in March 2008, so we are pretty new to ASD. This Christmas our 4 year old son, brought tears to our eyes because of his innocence and honesty. The whole family spent Christmas together, and due to " secret storage space " problems, Santa brought the presents a few days before Christmas. Everyone was told that although Santa came early, we were not allowed to open presents until Christmas eve. Two days before, was sitting on Grans lap admiring the presents. He really wanted to open only one, but Gran said there were still 2 more " sleeps " before we could do that. Then she added that only children who were good throughout the year get presents from Santa. kept quiet for a while and then said: " is not getting any presents... " I wanted to cry! I showed him his name on his presents and tried to explain that he will get presents. The next day he was taking a nap with gran. Suddenly he said: " oh dear, oh dear, oh dear... " Gran wanted to know what was wrong. He repied: " will not get presents " . Well, he was very happy to get his presents on Christmas eve, and we learnt to try and analyse things before we say them! Seasons greetings to all of you. Mirinda (mom to (4) ASD and Annika(2) NT) South Africa
