I wouldn't reject a medication just because it's typically prescribed for ADHD. I would focus more on the behaviors you are hoping to have controlled with medication. My son is on an ADHD medication during the school week because he needs help focusing in class and not being so impulsive. But he has Aspergers too. I'm not sure if you can say exactly what diagnosis is most aligned to the focusing problems he's having, but it really doesn't matter to me b/c my main goal is to help him focus.

Does anyone know a psychiatrist in the maryland area that knows anything about prescribing meds for aspergers/autism for children? We have tried two different psychiatrists to prescribe medication for our son and they keep wanting to put him on adhd meds...I am finding they know very little about aspergers/autism. This is after 4 years of doing everything possible not to use meds, but it is tearing my family apart.
