Guest guest
Hello Debrah and I am glad you found our group! Just hearing from others has been really helpful to me and my family. I know just what you mean and can totally relate. Can you explain more about your kindergarten experience? My child starts kinder in the fall and we are extremely apprehensive about it. My child just turned five and we got our diagnosis only a few months ago. I am glad you found us but saddened as the list grows.marie

Guest guest
Hi Marie Kindergarten was a bit much for Micah. The first day I was getting calls at home from a ticked off teacher. They were mad because he wouldn't write his name, he didn't like to use scissors, he wouldn't color, would get under the desk and stay there, etc. He also had trouble snapping his pants, I think that was mostly my fault, because I always did his pants up for him. Well, they started blessing him out at school because of it. He pretty much got yelled at or ignored all day. They let him sit under his desk if that's what he wanted to do, and the reply to me when I offered to come in and see if I could get him to mind was he needs to work independently. Okay, but letting him sit under the desk the whole day is not helping him learn anything except that if he climbs under the desk, he can get out of doing his work. When I was finally allowed to sit in on a class, and see what was going on, it was horrible. Micah never behaves at home the way he was behaving in school. I tried to get him to do the work, and he would cry and scream and act like I was gutting him. It was so upsetting. I mean, he was having a total meltdown. He was also starting to change at home. He wasn't happy anymore, he was crying, and stressed out all the time, and didn't want to go to school. The thing that bugged me the most was that I could get him to do his work at home, but not at school. He was learning despite what was going on at school. So, I finally pulled him out, and we are homeschooling kindergarten. Not sure if he will go back for 1st grade or not. All I can say is that he is my sweet, happy child again, not the stressed out unhappy kid he was in school. We made an appointment to see behavioral and developmental psych and got an appointment for Jan. and they diagnosed him then. There was a LOT of crap that happened in kindy, I don't mind chatting with you sometime to fill you in because it is too much to type here. Just keep in mind that he had not been diagnosed before he started kindergarten. I think with an IEP in place, things would have been different. > > Hello Debrah and I am glad you found our group! Guest guest
Hi Deborah. I just did a search in the group for homeschooling and up popped your post! I am considering homeschooling for my 11yo DS with AS. I realize your child is much younger than mine, but do you have any advice to offer? Did you find any resources that were particularly helpful? Thanks, Natasha
