Guest guest
Hi and welcome. Did the hospital make (educational) recommendations upon discharge? I ask because I'm wondering if she needs a more therapeutic environment than what the school district can provide. I'm assuming it is public school? Pam In a message dated 2/3/2009 8:09:19 A.M. There is a book our neuropsych recommended that really helped me. It is called Collaborative Intervention: Positive Everyday Routines. If you search in Amazon you'll find it. It REALLY helped me figure out how better to deal with my 14yo aspie son. It's $50, but worth it. They explain where the " oppostional " behavior is coming from so you can better understand how to deal with it. Then you get to try to get the school onboard... Seriously, what types of evaluations has she had and from whom (qualifications)? That may be part of your problem, that is, lack of appropriate support. If the therapists are treating her as oppositional, they won't get anywhere with her, since that isn't really what is going on. Ruth

Guest guest
Hi , I actually live in next county from you! SIGH, the sad shape of mental health in NC! It is sad. They've cut back on hours for some services for kids which doesn't benefit the child or families! There's a limit on most services for " number of hours per week " or " per month. " Sounds like you are in the " system " with the services you are getting. Don't know where you could get " more " at. The intensive in-home, I'm not sure the limits on it; it may be all the time that certain provider has. But intensive in-home is *supposed* to be good. Is the additional therapist like one who will do outpatient treatment or someone who comes to your daughter's location (home or community) to work with her? It also sounds like she would benefit from a Day Treatment program for school. Different providers provide this, the school system may have it's own program too. I know it can be 1/2 days there, can't think right now, some students/kids may be there all day. The Day Treatment is supposedly (note the supposedly) more for those with mental health diagnoses and probably those receiving other mental health services. She should be getting follow-up appoints (maybe those are ones you mentioned) due to her recent hospitalization, some type outpatient therapy/counseling. (As someone else said, hospital should have recommended some things.) Also there are family support groups I'm sure and maybe some type family training too, to help you learn best ways to respond to her, etc. So sorry you're going thru this, the attempted suicide, that had to be sooooo scary!! Is she getting any supports for the Aspergers? Is TEACCH involved in any way? > > hi, > ive posted rarely, and never gotten a response however, i really hope > i get something this time. i'll go through intro again:: > my name is julie and i am mom to a now 12 yr girl aspie also dx ODD > anxiety clinical depression for starters.today, she just got out of > the hospital for an attempted suicide.i'm shattered. > long story short, she has a facilatator at school who basically has > bullied her all year, all came out in the hospital. she now will
Guest guest
hi chris, the hospital gave me one counselor name and recomended teaach the last time she was in was in hospital.we are on the waiting list. sounds like you have cbs services, our hours were cut and eventually we lost services.that became the downward spiral but not the reason this all occured.which county are you in it would be great to know someone is that close by who understands.the intensive home therapy ends in march, they give 3 months only and wont be making up for time lost while she was in the hospital. julie > > > > hi, > > ive posted rarely, and never gotten a response however, i really > hope > > i get something this time. i'll go through intro again:: > > my name is julie and i am mom to a now 12 yr girl aspie also dx ODD > > anxiety clinical depression for starters.today, she just got out of > > the hospital for an attempted suicide.i'm shattered. > > long story short, she has a facilatator at school who basically has > > bullied her all year, all came out in the hospital. she now will >
Guest guest
Hi , I don't get any of those type services but I do help out with some providers who meet (basically I just take the minutes of the meetings) and so hear the talk about services, etc. Well I hope that things begin to take a turn for the better with the services she's starting now and different facilitator at school, etc. Wish things could change " overnight " when kids begin therapies, etc., but it just has to take time. Only have a minute now, things to do, but we live in Eden! > > hi chris, > the hospital gave me one counselor name and recomended teaach the > last time she was in was in hospital.we are on the waiting list. > sounds like you have cbs services, our hours were cut and eventually > we lost services.that became the downward spiral but not the reason > this all occured.which county are you in it would be great to know > someone is that close by who understands.the intensive home therapy
