Guest guest
Hey I’m a newbie, so I don’t know as much as others, BUT I say stick to your guns and at the VERY LEAST, participate in groups like this where you CAN relate! My son will only be 7 next week, and his current diagnosis is only ADHD, OCD & Anxiety. Nevertheless, I strongly feel that he has Aspergers, even though the school psych and dev ped said he ONLY tested for “at risk” and “significant traits.” While the medical diagnosis on paper usually gets us a lot farther, we as moms know our kids best. In my case, my son’s issues definitely fit this category best. Curious to hear what others will say! You’ve got a friend in me! I am so grateful for this server! Guest guest
I agree. My ds is 13 and only just had his dx of AS in Dec, o8. In May 08, a neuropsych gave us a loose dx, of traits of NLD, OCD and anxiety, not AS. He has had problems all thru elementary, we visited OT's, psychologists, drs, had him tested for " giftedness " , no one ever suggested AS! I think if your son fits even part of the AS profile, you will benefit from the wisdom and experience of this site. You may find useful strategies. Guest guest
Hi , if you feel he still has some of the traits, I'd stick around anyway. There may be things you might approach differently - whether a behavior is from ADHD or anxiety.... But many here also have kids with other dx, including ADHD, etc. My son also has OCD, which falls under anxiety disorders. Plus, if you disagree, go with your gut! > > My son had his ADOS eval today and it was said that my son does not > have aspergers or autism(which I knew that one)but he does have > adhd, anxiety and impulsivity. Guest guest
Yup, that was instinctively my reaction as well when, despite, diagnosis not containing the term, 'ASD', that if you mention that it has been helpful to be here, why not stick around? My son was also said not to have an ASD, but yet, he has symptoms of it and our pediatrician describes him as " Aspergers-like " . The team evaluating my son was rather divided, but came back with non-ASD due primarily to his wanting to be social (that's not to say he does it well!) I believe it is a very subjective thing to diagnose and so who is to say that another physician might not go ahead and say, 'yup, an ASD'. If the strategies for helping children with an ASD are helping, then stick with it. Continue on whether or not a diagnosis fits at this time. ASD is such a spectrum of grey where many feel that even ADHD belongs to the classification! Good-luck! : ) > > > > Hey > > > > > > > > I'm a newbie, so I don't know as much as others, BUT I say stick to > your > > guns and at the VERY LEAST, participate in groups like this where > you CAN > > relate! > > > > > > > > My son will only be 7 next week, and his current diagnosis is only > ADHD, OCD > > & Anxiety. Guest guest
: Like others have said - feel free to stick around if you want to. Many times the diagnosis can change over the years. What's more important is that you are welcome here and find support here - no matter what the diagnosis, if this group is helping you, stick around. Take care, Janna > > My son had his ADOS eval today and it was said that my son does not > have aspergers or autism(which I knew that one)but he does have > adhd, anxiety and impulsivity. Guest guest
We had to take my son to several doctors before we found the true dx which was Aspergers, don't put your faith in one doctor, some don't know as much as they should. pj From: Lori Lashley <LLashley@...> Sent: Tuesday, February 3, 2009 10:15:03 AMSubject: RE: ( ) Well its official,I dont belong here.
