, does Jory have constipation problems too ? I was told by a doctor that when a child holds in their poop it gets to large to pass, they tend to hold it in even longer making it worst to go potty unless they take something for it. While they are holding in their large poop, it causes pressure on their kidneys causing them to pee in their sleep without knowing it. if this isn't the problem. they do have alarms that wake the child up during the night so they can use the bathroom. I don't know how well that works, but heard of others using it. maybe even stop any fluids a few hours before going to bed and just keep reminding your child in that same sentence as: put on your PJ's, brush your teeth ***and go potty before you get into bed***. LOL, that's my sentence here at home. Also, When this happened in our home. if anyone had an accident in their beds, who ever did it, cleans it. they

would have to change their sheets, and put them and their wet PJ's in the wash and wash them. then make their beds again. not as a punishment !......but as a necessity because that's what needs to be done. you can't sleep in a wet bed...I wouldn't recommend the parent changing the bed. I don't think it would have the same impact as the child doing it themselves. Rose <k_emert1979@...> wrote: All these stories could be mine...the whining, the baby talk, the

I have to ask you ladies....do your kids also wet the bed? Even with meds to help reduce nighttime urine production, Jory pees the bed almost every night.

No...that is one issue I never had to deal with. But my son use to hold his stool...it started just after I tried to potty train him. He was fine with urinating but not the other. So, I stopped....but he kept holding his stool. We took him to the dr. who told us to give him mineral oil....so we gave that to him every day!!!!! It helped...we just mixed it in his drinks...don't ask me how he didn't know ...but it didn't bother him. People use to say...how is he going to go to Kindergarten if he doesn't poop on the potty. And, I said, I am not worried...if my son can hold it for 7 days then he surely can hold it for 4 hours. LOL.

We got him down to every other day but then he ran into this problem of feeling he had to urinate constantly. Had to take him back to the dr. Tested his sugars and kidneys...nothing. Doctor said it was in his head. Well, we eventually had to change dr. due to insurance. When I told the new dr. all this so he would have background infor. on my son...he said...I think I know the problem....and he examined him. And, then he says...Yup...just what I thought...he is still holding some of his stool which is pushing on the bladder and thus constantly makes him feel like he has to urinate. Wow!!!

TG for this GREAT dr.

Does your son have any issues like this?

Jan, last year, maybe once or twice the most, he had to be put back on his medication for that problem..(I can tell he's having the problem when his stomach protrudes, or, he's not eating as much, or, he has poop stains on his underpants) (there are signs that I can tell) so far, all is well for this year. When he first started holding his stool. His GI doctor put him on medication and told me each time I put him on the potty, let him blow a balloon or a party horn. something that took some effect to blow. this would work the same way as if he were to push down without him being aware of it. As he got older, I had to teach him to tell me when he couldn't go or didn't have a B.M. for the day. then back on that medication he went. but at age 11. he is doing much better, but he was on medication for that problem - for years. I still keep his proscription on hand if needed. I found it

best to teach my son about his problem, to recognize it, then let me know so I can give him the medication at the first sign of it so the medication doesn't take as long to get into his system to work. Wow...another simularity....my son doesn't have the problem any more but it has taken all this time.....and he will be 13 in October. But, going it still sort of an issue for him ...he has to "tell us" ahead of time and he is in there forever....maybe that is a man thing LOL!!!! But slowly it has gotten better and some day ...hopefully it won't be an issue....for either of them.

Jan, my son also is in our 'only' bathroom forever too when he has a BM. I also noticed this happens most with boys to men. guess thats why men like to read in the bathroom. I also hope this will also pass, soon. My son plays his DS in the bathroom too. It's the only way we can

bribe him to use the toilet. He avoids pooping as much as possible.

I don't know how we ever would've toilet trained the little bugger

without a gameboy.

Anyone have any tips for how to get him to sit on the toilet without

completely undressing from the waist down? And to use the restroom

anyplace other than home? He has a dx of 'specific phobia of toilets'

because of the toileting refusal behavior, and the psychologist

expects us to work on that with a reward system, but we don't really

know how to help him.

Deep & Wide--that's too funny! :)

My son is the same...he used to undress from the waist down....I think it changes with maturity....as he no longer does it. He is 12 3/4 now. As far as not using public bathroom...he also is like that...but you know a little secret...so is my husband. I think alot of people are.

My son will use a public one now but only if he Must...such as when they went to a baseball game 45 min. away and of course, he didn't want to leave. I think the first time for him was when we were going to the movies in the mall. We were early and walked around. All of a sudden,....he said I want to go home....we had bought the tickets already and I refused to take him home...I had to take him into the ladies room before the movie started...and coax him the whole time....I was right there with him...he was probably 6. I can still remember the looks I got when I took him out...I didn't care...I wasn't sending him into the men's room...especially alone. And, he would not have gone. Afterwards...i said...that wasn't so bad was it...and now we can stay and see the movie you want.

I think a lot of people have this ....it not just our kids. But I told my son when ya gotta go...ya gotta go!

Jan

Don't ya luv the things we deal with.
