I sent a very pointed angry email to pr at Home Depot, because the

email I got from an autism organization listed them first as a

sponsor of the show... they sent back a reply that they don't

actually have anything to do with the show. I did cc it to the

station and to Savage so I copy/pasted it below. Just if you send

something like that, HOME DEPOT DOES NOT SPONSOR THE MICHAEL SAVAGE

SHOW.

**************copy/paste of the email I sent to HD, Mike Savage and

the radio station*************************

Hello,

I am a loyal XX shopper and board member of the National Autism

Association-Chicago. I am aware that XX sponsors Savage's

radio program.

On a recent program, he attacked children with autism, claiming that

autism was a fraud and a scam. He went on to say: " I'll tell you what

autism is. In 99 percent of the cases, it's a brat who hasn't been

told to cut the act out. That's what autism is. " Savage also used

offensive terms to describe autistic children, such as " idiots "

and " morons, " and stated that autism was a " racket perpetrated by

inept parents. "

I am the sole custodial mother of two children on the autism spectrum

who frequently accompany me on both business and personal shopping at

XX. My severely autistic 10-year-old son is a huge fan of your

products, and can spend hours with me there, quietly and happily

browsing your aisles. Your employees in the Chicago stores we

frequent have always treated him with dignity and care. It is

difficult for me to comprehend XX, a company I know and respect,

tolerating Savage's offensive and unacceptable conduct. However, it

is now impossible for me to contemplate returning to a store that has

supported such outrageous and hurtful comments about my son.

I respectfully request that you withdraw advertising dollars from

Savage's programs and that you call for his immediate dismissal.

Severe autism affects 1 in 150 children in the US, with one in six US

children currently diagnosed with a neurologically-based learning or

behavior disorder (Centers for Disease Control). None of these

children are " brats, " or acting. I don't think Mr. Savage realizes

the depth of pain his comments have caused to the families of the 1:6

children affected to some degree by an autism spectrum or related

neurologically-based disorder. Each of these children has a circle

of family, friends and supporters who share the concerns of the

child. Therefore, a vast number of Americans will be watching your

decision; how you react will have a powerful impact on their opinion

of your company. On behalf of all of us, I hope and trust that you

will do the right thing.

Respectfully,

Amy Wieder
