The conference is intended to educate and provide support for parents and educators of individuals with autism in addition to psychologists, speech and language pathologists, medical professionals, applied behavior analysts, habitation and employment specialists, vocational rehabilitation counselors, case coordinators, and advocates. This conference strives to provide an atmosphere of hope and upholds a commitment to providing comprehensive, up-to-date coverage of scientifically-validated strategies. This year's conference includes two pre-conference workshops, a Center Meet and Greet, vendor and agency booths, and more than 50 conference sessions presented by regionally and nationally-recognized researchers and practitioners in the field of autism. Topics covered include assessment and diagnosis of autism spectrum disorders, behavioral interventions and strategies, medical interventions, parent and professional development and support, and research strategies. Pre-Conference Workshops March 25, 2009 Behavioral Approaches to the Treatment of Autism and Severe Destructive Behavior - Wayne Fisher, Ph.D. Dr. Wayne Fisher is the Director of the Center for Autism Spectrum Disorders at the Munroe-Meyer Institute. During his workshop, he will describe how Applied Behavior Analysis methods have increased our understanding of autism, have led to the development of effective interventions, and have provided methods for making treatment decisions. Designing, Implementing and Trouble-shooting Verbal Behavior Programs - Partington, Ph.D., BCBA Dr. Partington is the director of Behavior Analysts, Inc. in Walnut Creek, CA. He has 35 years of experience working with children with developmental disabilities and is the author of the Assessment of Basic Language Learning Skills-Revised. Participants of this workshop will learn skills to analyze and address problems identified by the ABLLS-R. Additional topics include the evaluation of educational priorities and determination of IEP objectives.
