Guest guest
, give me her # I'd be happy to talk with her, LOL. Does your son have an IEP? The psychologist cannot make any unilateral decisions. The IEP Team makes the decisions. Was there a release signed for her to talk with the place who will be conducting the evaluation? Is this an evaluation the school is paying for or you are paying for? Pam In a message dated 1/27/2009 4:11:03 P.M. I just talked to the place who got the authorization for the eval and they told me she had called and said its unnecassary for the test to be done. They are still going to do it anyways, and she does have a release sighned but is it her right to call and say that especially when she has seen my son maybe twice? I know she also called the sych who will be performing the test and left a msg but I dont know exactly what she said to her.I would love some advice. I am currently waiting on a call from her to explain why she did this but I am quiet and shy myself and I dont know if I can say what I need to.Sorry this seems to be rambling I am just ticked off right now. Guest guest
First ...is the school paying for this Psych. Evaluation? Or are you getting done yourself or thru another agency? Either way....she has no right to call them and tell them it doesn't need to be done...and unless you sign a release...she can not get any of the records and the place and new pscyhologist/psychiatrist can not tell her anything...that would be a breach of confidentiality....unless you sign a release of information form that gave this place authorization....but I doubt that. I think this school pscyhologist has a lot of nerve! Go ahead and get the evaluation and then when you have the reesults ...you can figure out the next step. Guest guest
Hi , I had a couple of thoughts jump out at me when reading your post. First, she may be a Psycologist but that does not qualify her to determine a dianosis without any tests or evaluations being performed. Her opinion is just an opinion. If she continues to push the issue I would ask her for the results of the dianostic tests she has performed. Every evaluation my son has had has included evaluations for me, his father, his teacher, and his day care providers to fill out. They get as much information from as many sourses as they can in addition to their own evaulations to make a balanced diagnosis. Second, (assuming that this is a public US school) you are entitled to request evaluations and assesments any time you want. If they do not think he needs to be they need to give you reasons in writing why they are not granting your request. If your son is already in Special Ed, does he have a plan in place (IEP or 504)? If so you can request a meeting to discuss his needs. I can't think of a senario where a child could be receiving OT and PT without having a formal plan in place but if I am wrong you can request and evaluation for special ed. Are you having the ADOS through the school? I am confused about why she thinks she has any say in whether or not a evaluation should be done. ly I think that I would be on the phone with the principle pretty fast about this. It appears she is really overstepping her authority. But I realize that I may be making some incorrect assumptions. Guest guest
Thank you to everyone. The eval is being done by another agency that has been helping my son since he was 2 for his other issues. I tried to talk to her today and she gave me a runaround as always. she said it was just to give them information about him,and she said to her there something a little different about him but hes normal. does have an IEP but it was originally for speech then it had an addendum for orthopedic impairment. I have wanted him in the special ed class to benefit his social skills and she had kept telling me no. I made it a point today that it was my call and thats where he wants to be in there and I want him in there. She finally agreed while its not in the best place academically for him she will do a new IEP to put him in the class. I have told this woman since I met her he doesnt need help accademically because he is cognatively smart. He needs help socially. His teachers even agree they see social lacking on his part. I am glad I found this group. I was shaking and crying while talking to her(I evem mentioned some of the fixations he has and she said yes it does sound like he may have it). Thank you again and . > > I am having real bad problems with the school sycholigist. My son is > almost 5. Guest guest
I would put in writing that this woman does not have permission to speak to anyone and give a copy to the school and to the people doing the evaluation. Later, you can share their reports with the IEP team and be present when everyone is discussing it. RoxannaYou're UniqueJust like everyone else... ( ) Can I get some advice about school sych?
