Guest guest
Our just turned three year old (Dec. 28th) is hyperlexic too. I know there are varying degrees of this. He's not reading medical textbooks... but he is really reading, decoding and comprehending too. It started with street signs at age two. Have you seen any good resources to read about the varying degrees of hyperlexia. If so, could you e-mail them to me? Can you give me an example of what your son is reading at 3 1/2, as a point of reference? I do see this as "giftedness"... But I also realize that ALL kids eventually learn to read and we need to try and fill in developmental holes: fine motor, gross motor and social skills. Thanks. .. Other people get the special ed servicesat a young age, but then everybody wants to ignore the giftedness. Itis very hard to get both aspects of your child considered-- so betterto start as early as possible!
