Guest guest
Hi, folks. I joined this board a week or so ago, and only occasionally have a chance to read the daily digests I’ve been getting. My name is . I’m 45, married with five children. My oldest is 25 and my youngest just turned 7. They both (girls) have struggled in school, and with certain (different) learning issues. Both have/had IEPs. My husband is ‘challenged’ as well. It was recently suggested to me that he may have Aspergers, so I started researching the syndrome. Wow, it sure does sound like he fits the profile and our marriage fits the Aspergers/NT relationship. It might be a key to giving me some degree of acceptance of what is and what is not. My question… how did you go about getting a formal/official/professional diagnosis for your child(ren)? I have a call in to have my youngest revisit a developmental specialist she saw when she was littler. I’d like to pursue testing with Aspergers in mind. What about getting adults diagnosed? Anyone with any info/opinion/thoughts on that? I live in the greater Philadelphia region. Access to much high quality medical care. Any ideas? Thanks so much. Support, and understanding is wonderful to experience! ~
