Guest guest
Hi all, I have been spending a lot of time lately mulling over a problem and thought I would get your imput. s is now 10 and starting to be more difficult to manage when he gets into one of his moods. I worry that as he gets older it will be really difficult to get child care people who can handle him. I have a really fabulous day care for when I work but I am thinking more about when my husband and I want to go out a get a sitter. Fore those of you who have older children? What do you do for baby sitters? Vickie
Guest guest
I'm fortunate to have my parents close by so that's who watches Dylan for me if I'm gone for any extended period of time. Now that he's almost 13, he stays home by himself when I go to the store or run errands and he's just fine. I can count on one hand how many times someone other than family watched Dylan. I just didn't feel comfortable with it and never had to deal with it anyway since my parents are close by. I know I'm super lucky! My parents think Dylan just hung the moon and they've been involved with some of the parenting interventions we've received b/c they want to know the most effective way to work with/discipline him. We have a group here in Austin called Spectrum and they post a newsletter that contains a classified list of people who provide child care, respite care, etc... I wonder if there is an organization like that where you live that might have something similar? I remember seeing retired teachers and college students working towards degrees related to education/special education posting their availability in the newsletter. Or maybe check w/ your state to see if there is a state maintained list of respite care providers? That's a little more complicated but it might give you some ideas. Why someone was messing with that, I don't know!!!! Anyway, who goes out? <g> I can go out to the store and stuff and leave my 17 yo dd in charge. She can manage things fine. Guest guest
Perhaps I am being over optimistic but I still cling to the belief that I can go out with my husband every now and again. LOL! I like your quote, by the way. Vickie > > We had a babysitter once. She was " used to working with autistic people. " Then she called in a panic for us to come home asap. We did. She left.
