Guest guest
We do an online school. This is his 2nd year and he's in 7th grade. The change couldn't have been better. Taking him out of a situation that only caused stress, tears and breakdowns in the morning, anger when he was there, the need to be totally alone when he got home, yelling over everything cause he was wound so tight, my other kids tip-toeing around so they wouldnt' "set him off"........it was fricken horrible. We pulled him cause the school, although doing pretty well, started saying how maybe he needed to be admitted somewhere to get totally off his meds and "start again" to get an accurate view on what he needed. I know some who have done this and it honestly saved them. Maybe it was my weakness or inability to believe we were at that point..........I don't know. I yanked him out. The change was immediate. We struggle with getting work done....well,,,,,work that doesnt' come easy for him...haha. But,,,,,,he is calmer cause he's out of the situation that caused him the stress. This is a personal thing, but he doesn't take meds.......I don't see the need anymore and since he's 12, we just try to work on the "behavior thing" with a more, "that's not the way to do it",,,,,"this is what you need to do",,,,,etc, approach. I hope that makes sense. It's not that I'm against meds, I just saw once he got home, that the reason for the meds, were so he could fit into the situation at school. Now......he fits better, cause he isn't all freaked out and stressed and mad. He talks more, initiates conversations,,,,,,is one of the crew....... Don't get me wrong,,,,he still sees things very "personally"..........and can really lose it, but for us, the benefits have incredibly outweighed the negs. Guest guest
> I also would be interested in the online program you use. I have a thirteen year old daughter. I took her out of school and took her off all meds and she is doing so much better. The crying has stopped and she seems so much happier and content. Guest guest
We are with WIVLA (in Wisconsin) and they use K12. They are switching to a couple of different ones for next year, though, to give more options to the ones who learn differently. I can't think of the names right now. I believe 1 is a Florida curriculum. I'm gonna have to get the names. I'm really excited about it, cause supposedly, it's more "adaptable" to middle-school kids. To give them more guidance and more "showing how to do certain math "techniques"" online....so it's easier for them to "see" it. Did that make sense? he he. What do you do? Guest guest
I have been learning a lot about this lately and the funny thing is I live about 5 miles from the Northern Ozaukee School District which is the school that runs the Virtual school. Guest guest
> In California we have a public charter school, CAVA, California Virtual Academy. I have only seen the website, but it does look very good. They provide computer, modem, textbooks, workbooks and have local teachers and group get-togethers.
