I read an article this week that says that a gene variant was found that links

autism and GI problems. I realize not all people w/ASD's have GI problems, but

a whole lot of them do, including my son. It was one of our earliest clues, in

fact.

I was wondering if the link could be put into the links section, but I couldn't

add it. It's from Health Day News online, which is on Medline Plus.

Thank you for posting this, . I agree, while not all children with Autism

are affected by problematic GI symptoms, it is definitely an area that warrants

future research because the numbers are fairly high.

While my son is not affected, my daughter certainly was (she had a chromosome

disorder as well which was the main contributing factor to intestinal

difficulties.)

I have a young client that I work with who has severe Autism and also

significant GI problems.

Partially, I believe the problems can be associated with low muscle tone, often

accompanying kiddos who have an ASD. Perhaps, too, sensory issues contribute?

Anyway, something for others to be aware of.
