Guest guest
Lori, are there any opportunities within the school day to allow him to get help via a resource class? Meaning he would be pulled out of a current class to spend time in a resource class where he can get helped 1:1 with outstanding work or current homework assignments. I did this with my son in 10th grade but when he started needing specific classes for credits it wasn't as easy. Pam In a message dated 3/6/2009 2:47:29 P.M. He has 19 zeros and today is the end of the third quarter. He constantly has dentention for homework for not being turned in. He always seems to do better when someone says this is the work you have and you have to do it now and turn it in to me. I have very few teachers on board with this system. He does do well with Sat detention because of this reason. We have tried grounding, taking away the keys and we have tried rewards such as money, but nothing seems to work. Anyone with a child with ODD knows that when you punish, the child seems to only get worse. I just came from talking with the School Counselor and she is talking with the principal to see if we can get more teachers on board. If this continues, it is a possibility that he will have to go another school called ACES for credit recovery. I would be most grateful or any suggestions. Lori A Good Credit Score is 700 or Above. Guest guest
First, is he in couseling??? Is he on any medications???? Next...don't punish...reward instead....this is your homework....if you do it all without a fuss or givining us a hard time...then tomrrow you can have XYZ. Or, if you do all your school work w/o any problems...you can have so and so over on Saturday or you can use the car on Saturday. Give him rewards for doing things correctly ...you want Xbox ...If you do your school work, behave politely, etc. then you can ...XYX. Just something I was taught...try it. I think this is a really good idea, so my suggestion would be to focus on getting this to happen. I also think there is a good possibility your son is misdiagnosed and has memory problems/executive dysfunction. So, I also suggest requesting a SPED eval. Guest guest
We have a study hall at the end of school of the day for kids who need help. So far this isn't helping. The counselor called and the math teacher, which he respects, is going to keep him when needed to keep him caught up on his math and english for now. We are from a very small school so the resources are limited. Thanks for your response. Guest guest
I like Pam's idea. Sounds like he needs a more formal plan put together so everyone is on the same page. If the adults are consistent and keep him organized, he sounds like he would do most of his work. RoxannaYou're UniqueJust like everyone else...
