Guest guest
My sons speech isn't as clear as it used to be. Sometimes even my husband and I have trouble understanding him now. He has also started doing things he hasn't done in at least a year such as repeating parts in movies when he paces and making noises with his mouth (trapping air in his cheeks or under his lip and forcing it out so there is a sound). I'm sure if I thought about it there would be more things but those are the two I've just noticed. Thanks!
Guest guest
I agree w/ if anyone knows please share some insight, i too have noticed an onset of symptoms with my son that i didn't seem to notice as much if at all. things such as spinning, clapping his hands, peeing on the bathroom floor, talking in his sleep every night now, he is having difficulty sleeping all night, like an infant. Guest guest
, I quickly looked back thru posts for the age of your son -- is he 6 and on Risperdal? I was wondering if he recently began the med this year? Might be related. There's also Tardive Dyskinesia that could be from med. Here's an excerpt (note that this will usually stop when med discontinued): Tardive Dyskinesia (TD) is a serious, sometimes permanent side effect reported with RISPERDAL and similar medications. TD includes uncontrollable movements of the face, tongue, and other parts of the body. The risk of developing TD and the chance that it will become permanent is thought to increase with the length of therapy and the overall dose taken by the patient. This condition can develop after a brief period of therapy at low doses, although this is much less common. There is no known treatment for TD, but it may go away partially or completely if therapy is stopped. http://www.risperdal.com/risperdal/ Otherwise, with his speech regressing, you might want to get a check with a neurologist. Just my first thought, to rule things out. -- In , <lisa_leonard@...> wrote: > > My sons speech isn't as clear as it used to be. Sometimes even my husband and I have trouble understanding him now. Guest guest
Could it be his meds, if he takes any. My son has never stopped repeating, I wish there was something that would work as it's very nerve wrecking.pj My sons speech isn't as clear as it used to be. Guest guest
I'll ask his doctor if Risperdal could cause that. His repeating things has never bothered me because he only does it when pacing but with his having stopped for so long and starting back up, I am a bit concerned about it. Guest guest
If it's not a medical problem, then I have found in my own experience that when new things are popping out it usually is because of stress. Remember, not all stress is bad stress. Sometimes good changes can be stressful. So I would investigate what is happening around him or at school. It could be he has hit his limit at school - he cannot manage any more of it without behaviors popping out. You might see if there are some supports that can be added to help him. Or you could see about adding a sensory diet throughout his day to "blow off steam" and not let it build up. RoxannaAutism Happens ( ) What could cause regression? Guest guest
I wonder if it could be his glasses. I can't remember now if the regression started before or after he got glasses. I also want to see if it could be his medicine. ( ) What could cause regression? My sons speech isn't as clear as it used to be. Sometimes even my husband and I have trouble understanding him now.
