Guest guest
Thanks everybody for helping me with this (I got some feedback offline). You both gave me ideas and made me feel better. I'm not calling another meeting since we just had one and the people I want to talk to are not on the 504 team (there's probably a lesson there somewhere--for the school). So, I'll e-mail the 504 dude, as Roxanna calls him, ask him to call me and discuss more detail since the meeting was already running 2 hours. I'll e-mail the before-school SPED teacher, introduce myself, give contact info and thanks, ask for him to let me know what I can do to reinforce what he is doing. I'll e-mail SPED math co-teacher, give contact info, thanks, a list of my son's issues in that particular class, let her know about the eval and ask her to pass on appropriate info to the appropriate people. Then, I think I'll call each core teacher and the theater teacher (he's had both years of jr high and is doing exceptional with), just for more detailed feedback. Guest guest
> > Sounds like a great plan of action! Go Ruth! Of course, you know it all changed between last night and today. I found my son working on a language arts assignment--all on his own--which was great. But then I found out he was supposed to be working on it for " a couple of weeks " , was supposed to have bought a book, and it was due today. So much for the agenda and chunking. So, I called for a 504 meeting after all--to discuss both some changes and also to get more detailed teacher feedback and input. I decided we need to go down the line and discuss each 504 item with the teachers and get their input if there is any hope of them following the 504. I wasn't sure whether we could do this all in one meeting, but the 504 coordinator agreed to the idea of having all the teachers come to a 504 meeting, so we will see. He commented that we could have as many 504 meetings as I wanted, so I guess that isn't a problem. The SPED teacher he meets with in the mornings before school and I have already exchanged a couple e-mails. He doesn't appear to have been clued in on much, so I'm doing that. He didn't even know about the agenda replacement we decided on in the last 504 meeting. I'm not being too demanding though, since my son isn't even supposed to have SPED services; I'm trying to be informative--then I'll see where he takes it. I haven't contacted the math SPED co-teacher yet. Just still thinking of a concise way to inform her of my son's issues in a motivating way. That and the fact that I have to eat and sleep some time. It's nice to have support--thanks! Ruth
