Guest guest
Hi Tammy. Sorry.......man that's horrible when they don't/can't sleep. I'd personally, call the doc today and say that you did up the Melatonin and that it didn't work. Tell him that you don't intend to up the meds because the benefits, so far, don't outweigh what's happening. See what he says. We were never on that,,,,but I'd be like you, if I saw a big change FAST and knew that I could correlate it with a med. My son, without meds/with meds slept (or should I say, Didn't sleep) for years. No matter what. He still is a night owl and we've just adapted. Had to. So,,,,good luck and follow your gut,,,,but definitely tell your doc about this. (Can you take a nap today?----hee he) Robin From: Tammy <vitzie@...>Subject: ( ) stimulant meds and no sleep please help!! Date: Friday, February 27, 2009, 5:52 AM Can someone please help me Im exhausted! This is my son's 5th day on a stimulant, vyvanse, only 15mg to start, and at night time it is like he is on speed! He is 8 yrs old and has HFA, probably ADHD "unofficial" and anxiety. The Dr said to up his melatonin to 3 mg from 1mg. so I did that, no help. I think If I gave him 10 mg it wouldn't even matter! Last night he was up since 2 am, went to bed at 10:30, so about 3.5 hrs sleep and he is just WIDE awake. I do notice some small positive changes as far as attention goes, but nothing worth being up all night! Did anyone experience this? Should we stop it or stick it out a bit longer? The Dr said give it a week, then we are supposed to increase to 30mg which I will NOT do if he still isn't sleeping. He also takes celexa 8mg for anxiety for almost 2 yrs now and we have had no problems with that at all. Sorry to ramble Im just so exhausted I can't think Tammy (I give him the meds early, 7:30 am)
Guest guest
My son has been on vyvanse for a yr now i don't remember him having sleep issues on it, but he has been on clonidine since he was 3 now 10, for sleep issues but if your giving it that early in the morning and not in the evening too(?) then the vyvanse should be worn off by the time he goes to bed my son is on 70 mg a day and it has warn off by night. not sure if thats much help but i would call dr also and see what they say since the melatonin isn't working maybe vyvanse isn't right for him. good luck, Amy > > Can someone please help me Im exhausted! Guest guest
Hi, My 18 yr. old aspie is not on any medication during the day at all anymore, but he still has sleep issues. The dr. put him on sonata 10 mg. at bedtime with 1 melatonin. It's a med. that works fairly quick, within the hour or so, but it gets out of the body within a few hours also. It's just enough to help get him to sleep. Hope this helps. Sharon From: amy stacey <blueeyednva24501@...>Subject: ( ) Re: stimulant meds and no sleep please help!! Guest guest
My 12 year old normal kid takes Vyvanse and also struggled with trouble going to sleep. His ped suggested that as soon as he gets home from school he needs to drink a big glass of orange juice. Something in the orange juice metabolizes with the vyvanse and gets it out of the body faster. This is the first week we've tried it and it's working! He was also told to have a snack of cheese and crackers right before bed to help.
