Guest guest
Oh how I hear you....my son thinks everyone is his friend and he would give them anything of his...he is good hearted. Sometimes I see kids using him...and I had to put my foot down on him giving his stuff away or letting kids borrow things. My son also does things other kids tell him to....like when a classmate told him to go over to S and tell S to pants W. Instead of my son say...you do it if that is what you want...no he does what the other kids says and when S says okay I will do it for $2.00 ....my son gives him $2. Ughhhhhhh! And, guess who ended up in the principal's office. And, guess who did not tell the whole truth...my son....why 1. he is intimidated 2. he doesn't want to get his friend in trouble becuase the kid won't like him any more. UGH...Double UGH. I saw this at the Votech I attended with my student. They used to outright tease this boy...I have no idea what his DX was ...but I was disgusted by it all. They would tell this boy ® oh, sos and so thinks you're cute and wants to go out with you. he would believe them and go over and sit with the girls and they would taunt him. I put an end to it. My student got embarrassed ...said it was none of our business...and I told him yes it was...I was not going to sit there and see these kids make a fool out of R. The would laugh behind his back and all kinds of things. Let me tell you...I gave them all an ear full. Kids today are cruel....not all...but I see it a lot in the high school...they are disrespectful, rude, cruel to each other and down right ignorant. Now I am not saying all the kids...but let me tell you there is quite a handful. Another student I worry about is a girl...she is so naive...now her parents are very protective of her and she has a TSS in school but she could never make it on her own and she would definitely be taken advantage of ....especially sexually. It is frightening out there. And I do worry for all the kids including mine. Guest guest
We got guardianship of our son when he turned 18. It was not hard at all- the school psychologist recommended it and testified. We needed to be able to make medical decisions, and monetary ones. He can now not be tempted to get a credit card (how many pokemon cards would that buy?), join the military, or any of the other things that could go wrong (he did register for the draft- or rather I did for him). We have his SSI check go into a special bank account (its name escapes me at the moment) with both his and my name on it. I have to prove we use it for him. I am so glad we did this- he is so vulnerable. Jean In a message dated 8/5/2008 10:04:07 P.M. Guest guest
I haven't even looked into guardianship, I guess that's another thing I need to check on. Thanks everyone, I'm keeping all of your posts on this sujbect. H. Re: Guardianship We did guardianship in DuPage County. My husband went with Neal to the ourthouse to have the summons done, like others did. What my husband thought was funny was that plenty of people there knew the awyer (a specialist in the field) and greeted him by name...and plenty of cops n Wheaton and West Chicago said hi to Neal, because they'd seen him on his bike n the Prairie Path and with his camera, photographing trains. My husband was he only nobody in the trio! Before we went for the guardianship hearing, we did chat with Neal that you an't behave in the courtroom like the 3 Stooges do. So he was serious. The udge, it turned out, was the father of a teammate of Neal's brother. The judge sked Neal if we were good to him, and made a few nice remarks to Neal that he as fortunate to have parents who cared a lot to become his guardians. I thought we were likely to get one type of guardianship, but he granted both ypes. Now I wish I'd been bold enough to ask a few questions when he did so. -Gail From: ELLEN BRONFELD <egskb@...> ubject: Guardianship o: IPADDUnite ate: Sunday, October 18, 2009, 5:59 PM We did guardianship ourselves in Cook County. My husband took oah downtown with him just after his 18th birthday in March. Taking Noah along o file the guardianship papers, which Asher got online, avoided having court apers served to Noah here at home. The court date was set for a couple of onths after that downtown trip, in June, and we brought Noah to court and hough he is relatively non-verbal he was able to answer yes to the Judge's uestion about whether Noah wanted his parents to be able to make decisions on is behalf. We did not require an ad litum attorney. Maybe this is a new equirement. We did not have any other representation. It was pretty straight orward. The Judge was respectful and quite nice. I have only heard of one articular difficult situation... as I recall, it had something to do with not aving all the required paper work and they made the family reschedule their ourt date.
