Guest guest
Now that we've talked a little bit about getting along with the secondary school teachers, I'm realizing that a big part of this problem, at least right now, for me, is managing the 504 meeting when the coordinator won't. That is, when he won't take charge of really trying to find out what is going wrong, trouble-shooting, and coming up with more workable solutions. Last time I had to do this, a couple of years ago, the school counselor (they are administration in our school district) stepped up and helped me. But, I know this 504 admin well enough by now that I really don't think he is going to lift a finger to help me. It is all going to be up to me. The other people on the 504 team are not interested either. Anyway, I'd be very interested in any BTDT as far as how you structured the meeting for anyone else who has been through this. My thoughts so far are simply to go down through the 504 item by item, and get the teachers' input on how it is working, what sense it makes to them (a big part of the problem, I think, etc.), and assume some conversation will develop out of that. I know I don't need to worry about the other 504 members (both admin) jumping in and giving their opionion. I want to try to avoid finger-pointing by keeping to question-asking and brain-storming and emphasizing that this is an experiment, not a permanent decision. Thanks for the ear!
