Guest guest
We trried Tenex and it does help our son with nail biting due to anxiety. But it is a blood presure medicine and we only use it when his nail biting gets out of control. He is already on a heavy cocktail of meds and I can't see using it when we know what triggers the nail biting,,..testing situation at school. BeckyOnce you have met me , you can't forget me. I am so glad, I am me !} } So what Anxiety med do you (all) recommend for 6/7 age range? Do you combine} with ADHD med or is there an ADHD med that also handles anxiety? I have} appt 4/21 and I want to fully understand the options!!After a trial of Ritalin that made him very anxious, my son was triedon Tenex and that has been very helpful for impulse control andanxiety. He started at 6, has been on for not quite a year.Willa
Guest guest
We have been using Tenex with our 7 yr old dd for 6 months now. Our developmental pediatrician recommended we try it for behavioral issues at her school. We started out going very slow...just a quarter dose for a week or more, then built up to a half dose, three-quarters, etc. Until we were at a full dose after one month. Both her teachers and ourselves noticed some differences...some reduction in aggressive behavior and a slight increase in compliance. We took her off the medication after we tried increasing the dose and she began to fall asleep in class...she had stopped napping at 10 months old, so it was quite unusual. We took her off the medication ramping down the same way we ramped up. We tried another medication, Concerta and took her off it after three days because she was climbing the walls due to being totally hyper. We decided to try the Tenex again and ramped up even more slowly than the first time. She is now on one Tenex tablet in the morning. Yesterday, I accidentally forgot to give her the medication and in the evening she was completely hyper again...then my wife noticed that I hadn't given her the Tenex yesterday. oops. Not cool, because the blood pressure is affected. You should also know that on the Tenex my daughter was expelled from her school (private-independent) last month due to behavioral problems. So it helps, but not enough. > } > } So what Anxiety med do you (all) recommend for 6/7 age range? Do you combine > } with ADHD med or is there an ADHD med that also handles anxiety? Impulse control and anxiety } combined into one sounds amazing. My son has been taking Concerta for a } year, and we have seen results, but it doesn't even TOUCH anxiety (which I } believe has gone up, and from what I've read, Concerta can actually INCREASE } anxiety?!!). I've never even heard of Tenex. what's it all about? Tenex is actually a medication for lowering blood pressure in adults. It does not usually have that effect in children. My son's psychiatrist (not the one who originally prescribed it) tells us they have finally done some studies showing it works in children; he was a little dubious before. The only side effects we've noticed are a sedating effect that wears off in a few days and possibly dry mouth. (He gets very thirsty before bed.) Bam stopped his inappropriate chewing right after starting it. Unfortunately that behavior has come back some recently. It's okay for you to use it as needed? I thought from the info we've received that it needs to given regularly and tapered off of. Willa
