Hi ,

I'm Sharon. Don't know where your from. I'm in New Jersey.

We have just found out that to get medicaid,

(from what I understand), you child needs to be getting

Social Security Income. But our child is 18, so that may be a factor.

You have to apply, and once you qualify, I think you automatically get medicaid.

Talk to your local Social Security office. Or look it up on the internet.

Hope this helps.

I'm trying to get help from medicaid for our 6 year old aspie who we adopted from overseas. Does anyone know if there is a way he qualifies for medicaid by being adopted? Someone mentioned it as a possibility this week and I've never heard of it.Has anyone been able to qualify for medicaid for an aspie? Some people have told me there is no way he would qualify, but we're going to try because we really need the financial help for his therapies and to get some OT equipment for home. Would love any insight you all have!www.cuddlebugkids. etsy.com

Actually, Sharon, isn't it the other way around? We just sent away our paperwork but an agency is doing it for us. They first sent away for Medicaid Waiver, and Social Security is a separate set of papers, not related (but both need a diagnosis on paper.

Also, ask your agency if you can get a Medicaid service coordinator the day you submit the paperwork. I got one and it's been a huge load off my shoulders. She's working on getting me some help with the other kids while I schlep to therapy.
