And further, did you use this in the future with college or with vocational services, etc? I don't know if this is what you are looking for or not, but I've gotten discharge summaries from therapy centers that are like you describe. I think sometimes you have to ask for one, because either they don't think to give it to you or don't bother to do one. Anyway, these things usually go through all the goals that were set up for him and state where he is at at meeting them. Some therapists are better than others at being informative, how well they communicate in writing, and some will try to make themselves look good at the expense of accuracy. Just another thing you have to keep an eye on, I guess. I use them just like evaluations, which is to say, if my child were that age, I'd be using them for college or vocational services. Guest guest
Yes, I figured that is what "should" be on one. The draft SOP they sent home is just so...nothing. I mean, it basically says he is a nice guy and he should learn to speak up for himself more. I mean, don't want to let him let that nasty severe speech delay get in his way, do we now? lol. The thing is, he bypassed his diploma for these past two years so he could take this computer class which is only for high schoolers. So he has only been there for this one class and they really don't know about him or his needs. So I imagine the SOP is listing what they do know - nothing. But I would have thought they would have put concrete things on there about his disability. It's not like he doesn't have a file that is 6 to 8 inches thick following him around the school. I want him to have this if he needs it for vocational or college needs. I hate knowing I have to go to a meeting and not agree with them when I wish I could just smile, sign and leave. I guess I am grouchy and tired today...ugh. Roxanna The government’s view of the economy could be summed up in a few short phrases:If it moves, tax it. I think you should do it because more recent testing may be required by whatever services he tries to access after HS. You'll have to pay for it, whereas now you can get at least some of it for free through the school. I'm sure they are just trying to cut costs. Which means you may have a fight ahead of you. Oops. You probably didn't want to hear that. That's not even funny, is it. I know with multiple kids on the spectrum, you have to be absolutely weary of everything being a fight like this. Or maybe I just have the wrong attitude. Anyway, my 2 cents. Ruth
Guest guest
I am so tired and they seem to wear me down that way. Juggling one kid while running after the other and the next thing I know, I just want to crawl into bed and not get up. I did email to the Dir. of Sped to ask about the testing. I am sure nobody wants to spend the money. And it will annoy my kid to do it as well. Roxanna The government’s view of the economy could be summed up in a few short phrases:If it moves, tax it. Guest guest
Here in Rhode Island districts are no longer obligated to evaluate upon exit from high school...the summary of performance is taking the place. But, if it has been more than 3 years, wouldn't they have to do an evaluation because of that? --Ruth

Guest guest
My question then would be - does the SOP have to have data on it? (i.e. test scores? percentiles?) or can it just be a written account of the needs of the child/young adult?
