Guest guest
Hi Everyone, I don't post as often as I would like to but do read and reply to some of the posts when I can. My ds is 6 and has Asperger's and Adhd. He has just started taking strattera for the adhd which seems to helping him so far. Ds will only poop in a diaper and it has been like this since we began toilet training him when he was 2. The older he is geting the more of a problem it becomes. He just will not poop on the toilet full stop, we have tried everything at this stage and now i am feeling pretty desperate. Are we asking too much maybe? Ds youngers brother who will be 4 in May and has develpmental delay and speech and language problems and a possible language disorder, has just statrted showing an interest in toilet training is now doing a similar thing. He has mastered peeing on the potty but is getting anxious and in a state if he needs to poop just like his big brother does if he doesn't get a diaper. I am concerned that he will start withholding poop too like his big brother. As I type this he is cying for a diaper so he can poop. Please any advice would be welcome... Has anyone out there ever had a similar problem with toilet training and if so what did you do?
Guest guest
Hi I’m afraid I won’t be much help with advice, but I did want to tell you that I could relate! My ds just turned 7 and I believe he has Aspergers. Still waiting for that diagnosis but currently have ADHD, OCD w/anxiety. From day one, he did not want to “poop on the potty.” To this day, he will not go if I don’t make him. I make it a rigid part of his routine; the 1st thing he has to do when he gets home from school is go poop. I absolutely hate this and we have the discussion continuously as to why he won’t go when he feels it. When he was younger, it was definitely a source of anxiety. Today, it still appears so, but he swears to me that he DOESN’T feel it. (the sensation to go) I am not sure how I got him to actually start going on the pot, other than forcing the routine every day. Also, when he was very young (Pre-potty training and during) I thought maybe he COULDN’T go, so I would try children’s fleet liquid suppositories. He hated that process so much that he argued less about being forced to sit on the pot until he went. Don’t get me wrong, there were many LONG hours of sitting, but he did finally start to go, and today he knows its just part of his routine. He’ll still whine and complain about it. He still won’t go unless I make him. Looking forward to hearing others’ feedback, but hope mine helped somewhat! Guest guest
We came up with an unusual solution when our son was about 4 and wouldn't begin the training process. He was holding it and having lots of accidents. It's called encopresis. We put the potty in front of the TV and played a video game with him. Eventually we got him to sit on the toilet and got a gameboy. He can now sit without the game, but he prefers to have it. It takes his mind off of the holding habit and relaxes him. He will not use toilets outside of our house and grandma's house for BM. He officially has a dx of phobia of toilets in addition to PDD-NOS. We of course have him on a toilet schedule, use a little miralax to soften his stools, and have used various rewards along the way. He is 7 now and seldom has accidents, thankfully. It was a big problem for a while.> >> > Hi Everyone,> > > > I don't post as often as I would like to but do read and reply to some of the posts when I can. My ds is 6 and has Asperger's and Adhd.
