My husband is totally against it, as he had 2 EEG's as a child and was terrified (maybe something genetic here?) My son has had 2 seizures, a year apart, and does all this stimming with his eyes, so that's why I would get him tested, if I thought it could do any good. Seizures can cause brain damage. That is why they take them so seriously and make the kids take such hard-core medicines for them. Also, yes, sometimes there are treatments. Can't say more since you won't know anything until you do the EEGs and find out what is wrong. Ruth
Guest guest
I've had an EEG before and I can't recall it being scary? It sounds like it might be good if your child is having seizures? Guest guest
Hi:) My son has hasd several EEG's as he has epilelpsy. HE also has autism as well. The eeg are not scary. There is no pain involved. It however can be anxiety. We usually cut his hair really short due to the glue they use for putting the lead on it takes awhile to get it all out. The most scary part of it may be the flashing lights part. It kinda like looking at a strobe light. The test is shorter than it takes for putting one on. However if u are getting the eeg for 24 hrs to 3 days the scalp can get a little sore. Alot of children with autism can have seizures disorders. It can be controlled with meds. Sometimes the docs like to do a MRI if the EEG is postive. Have faith and stay strong. I know all the testing can get to be alot and draining at times. Take care and God bless:) From: T <juice00000@...>Subject: ( ) EEGs/Neurological testing Date: Tuesday, April 7, 2009, 4:48 AM For those of you who had your children tested, was there something concrete found? Guest guest
My non-verbal daughter had an EEG and it was not at all frightening for her... she was merely bored and so we sat around in the room with her showing her different toys, singing to her, etc. She had long hair and yes, there is some gooy residue left in the hair, but it washes out without a hitch. Definitely, it sounds as if you are describing symptoms of seizure activity and it is very important to investigate this! There are medications that can ward off seizure activity... please go ahead and test! > > For those of you who had your children tested, was there something concrete found?
