Hello All,

I'm new here. I have two kids, my youngest is 4 and fine, my oldest just turned 8. I knew at birth he wasn't like other kids. In order to get him to calm down from screaming fits at 6 months old, we had to do "naked baby." Fast forward to 18 months, an EI eval and got the dx of Sensory Integration and other developmental delays.

At 3, he started in our town's disabled preschool. Kindergarten was a contained K. At 5, his Dr. whom I love and respect, (Dr. Sultan, if anyone is in the area), gave dx of ADHD, Aspergers, and still SI. At 6, he started on Ritalin and then moved to Concerta. We're now in second grade, he's in the resource room with special ed teacher for most of the day and mainstreamed for specials; which are art, gym, music, library, etc. Of course, his issues in school happen at specials which are also end of the day, along with lunch, usually happen as he's ready for a new dosage of Concerta. So, the combo of regular teachers, end of day, and a new class every day is cause for a meltdown. The principal is wonderful and understanding, as is the Special Ed teacher. I know I'm blessed with these circumstances.

I'm just tired. I'm tired of explaining to the bus driver why his seat can't be moved arbitrarily. I'm tired of explaining to the lunch ladies why he has a meltdown when he they run out of chicken nuggets before his lunch period. I'm tired of explaining to everyone about everything. I know I'm not done, I've got miles to go before I rest. I know and I'm thankful it's not cancer I'm dealing with. That's my mantra. Some days, I just want to bag it and home school.

I'm glad to have found this forum for learning tips and tricks from other parents, as well as have a place to vent.
