Guest guest
I just finished watching the show (comes on at 4pm in Calif). I thought the show was great. What shocked me is the phone call from my Mom. I had asked her to watch the show to give her an idea of what we had gone through with our 9 yr old son. She didn't get it! She said that the girl in the show was really bad, nothing like my son. I told her that it reminded me of my son and she just kept denying it, saying that my son hardly had OCD, " it was no big deal. " What does that mean?!! My son " only " had hoarding, but when your child is in constant stress, wanting to kill himself, crying over every speck of dust that left the house, making everyone walk in a certain pattern, wiping our feet a certain number of times before you leave the house, even holding dust while he slept, having to stop going to school, becoming stuck in a certain posistion, and finally getting placed in the hospital. Even when I speak with my son's teachers now, they don't get it either. I am just so upset to discover that not even my family understands how hard OCD can be on the whole family. Back to Dr Phil, I thought the show was done really well. I want so badly to tell the family to try Inositol, which worked miracles for us. I know it doesn't work for everyone, but since she is so set on not using other drugs, it's worth a try. I wish I had taped this show. My husband (who is at work) needs to see it. Guest guest
I just saw a few moments of the show when they were discussing medication and how the girl didn't want to use it. When the mother said " There were days when I thought - this is the day that she needs to take the medicine " , I felt like jumping into the TV set and telling them that the medicine wouldn't work that fast. They made it sound like taking a pill for OCD would make a difference in just one day! Boy do they have a lot to learn!!
Guest guest
Debbi, Unbelievable that some people did not see how awful this was on your son and you. So many times reading your posts my heart just ached for you, and I am clear across the country! I don't know, maybe your mom is like my mother-in-law. With her, I sense that she just can't accept that someone in her family has a mental disorder. I think it hurts too much, so she blocks it out. Plus, my husband has OCD and she never did anything about it when he was a child, so maybe there's guilt involved too. Whatever the reason, it stinks to feel that you're alone in the OCD battle. Is your son still doing well? nna NY > > I just got done watching the Dr. Phil show. Did anyone else happen to > > see it? It was on OCD. Guest guest
Sandy, I caught the last half hour and my 7yo OCD daughter watched it with me. She didn't grasp a lot of the " adult " talk, but was very curious to see how other people's OCD affected them. She was confused as to why the one man couldn't leave his house after 5 pm. I could only shrug and say, " that's OCD, it makes no sense " , to which she agreed. I felt bad for the people on the show, but it also made me so grateful that my daughter received treatment at such a young age. I also wished that they had shown someone who was managing their OCD through treatment (maybe they did and I missed it). I know that's not as interesting a story, but so many people out there need to see that it can happen, they need that hope. That's why this List is such a help to us all! nna. Guest guest
You can order a tape of the show if you go to Dr. Phil's website @ DrPhil.com. That way your husband will be able to see the show too. I thought it was excellent!!! I sat and cried while I watched it because it was like watching my son's life (and ours). You are right, people don't understand what it is like living with someone who has OCD (not family, friends or teachers) but at least you know that we understand!!!! (all of us on the message boards. Guest guest
Hi. I emailed the Dr. Phil show about the doing a show on the dangers and truths about vaccines probably a year ago when I started my research. Do you know when the show is going to air?
