Re: (Aspergers Support) Is This True (a Newbie Question)

I just posted my introduction and I thought I would just ask the team of experts (parents of AS children) how true this is. I have read that AS people are like holograms-they can look fine, act fine, work fine, but inside there is an emotional empty space. What I am reading is that my daughter doesn't know what love feels like, she only knows what it looks like and therefore mimics that back to me and that causes me to think she knows love. Is this true? How does she know when I'm upset, then? Today she came up to me and asked me why I was crying. (I didn't tell her I was upset about her dx, of course). Then she put her arms around me and sang me a song to console me. If she doesn't know what sadness is and can't empathize with people, why did she do that? I am not denying she has AS, I believe it's probably accurate. She irritates other kids and won't stop annoying them after they ask her to, she repeats things over and over (like singing songs and reciting lines from books and movies), she is forever pretending to be some character from a story, she has an incredible memory and can recall insignificant details from months past, she has tantrums, she is hypersensitive, terrified of strangers and of being teased, she has separation anxiety, and is afraid of new places and things. She goes bananas if her sandwich isn't cut the way she wants. She can recall details from a history book she read last year but can't remember what 5+3 is. That sounds pretty AS to me, I'm just not understanding this emotional part. Maybe I'm in denial because that is very, very upsetting to me. Sometimes she seems to be almost too sensitive. She cried when she thought the squirrel in her story was going to go hungry because he played instead of gathered nuts like he was supposed to. I'm just a bit confused and wondering if someone can help me understand this.Based on what I'm reading, it sounds to me like my daughter is not going to have a very happy life and that is very upsetting.
