Guest guest
Regarding Gillian's system of " speaking " instead of " keying " - I ordered a system from America-On-Line, called " AOL's Point & Speak. " It is by Dragon Systems, and is supposed to be much as you described, Gillian. It came with the CD ROM, microphone and cost $39.95. I haven't installed it yet, but will do it soon. I'll let you know how it does. My husband, in particular, is interested in using it because he sort of rambles on when dictating into his little recorder, and I have a He-- of a time transcribing it, and making sense of it! This should solve a lot of problems for me. I believe that it would be a Godsend to some of us PA'ers who have difficulty using our hands to type. Guest guest
Here are a couple sites that refer to speech difficulties with AS. In addition to the volume issue, mumbling and nasal quality, my son also sometimes has odd inflection and will put the accent on the wrong syllable of a word. I remember when he was small, he used to pronounce the word "menu" like "Man-U".... as if her were French! There are other sites, but I didn't post them. Try searching "nasal voice, Asperger's" http://www.aspennj.org/aspergers-syndrome.asp http://maapservices.org/Publications/_Bauer_Article.asp http://www.aspergers.com/aspcrit.htm http://www.aboutourkids.org/files/pages/aspergers_rosenberg_presentation_01_05.pdf (see page 19 of presentation) Mims Looking for last minute shopping deals? Guest guest
Oh, my goodness, that is my son too! " I remember when he was small, he used to pronounce the word " menu " like " Man-U " .... as if her were French! " We notice the same difficulties with separation of word parts. For instance, " Glenrose " is the name of a hospital. My son, despite repeated modelling, has always pronounced it as if it were two separate words: " Glen rose " . Same with other words: Potato, tomato, etc. > > Here are a couple sites that refer to speech difficulties with AS.
