Guest guest
we started watching this 18 month old boy 2 Xs a week approx 12 hours each day. for about 12 weeks now. I've noticed when he's told he can't have something, he gets so upset and will bang his head on the floor. He doesn't respond to his name. but if I call him several times and he happens to look my way and I have something he likes and sees it, he will come to me to get it. I've been working all day to try to get him to talk and he won't. he can say one word (which isn't clear) many times. and if I say another word that he knows over & over, He might say it once. He doesn't say hi, hello, or wave his hand to me when his mother drops him off. but he will come to me. He will play with a toy car, roll it on the floor and make a car sound. but not for long. he like holding onto anything that looks like a stick 'type' toy. He will take his nap at the same time each day. He doesn't point to anything and when he wants his sippy cup, he grunts. I know what he wants. So I'll get it for him and say cup. I've been trying everything to help teach him to talk. if he wants his cup and makes a sound, I'll say - cup. you want your cup?. and give it to him. same with anything else. he loves to hear songs, but won't try to sings any. but is so happy when the song is over and willing to hear it again. I wish I can do more. so, I told his mom about a speech therapist and early interventions. long story short. she said her full time daycare said he is so much more advanced than any child in their daycare. not to worry. she then told me he knows many words and says them often. I said, the one word he does say when he's here, its not clear. and in the past 12 hours, he hasn't said anything. I did give her the number to early interventions for an interview. but she is comfortable with what the day care said. I love this little boy and I know because he doesn't speak ' at all ' that's why he has so many tantrums. I know there is nothing else I can do. so, for now. I'm trying to teach him words. If I hand him a cookie, I'll tell him what it is. I do that with everything. fruit, cereal, etc... what would you all do? thanks Rose
