Guest guest
Thanks for your responses. I suspected he was reacting to the albuterol, but it is so nice to hear other people's experience. My son's is getting better again and hopefully we won't have to use it at all for awhile. Sudafed is another one that my son can't take. He used to bounce off the walls when I gave it to him. He gets alot of sinus infections, but I only give me mucinex. Thank you, Nora - In , Rose <beachbodytan2002@...> wrote: > > NORA > this doesn't answer your question, but wanted to share. I used to give my daughter (NT) Sudafed PE for sinus infections (her Dr. recommended it). UNTIL another doctor said no one should take that. it causes anxiety, mood swings, aggressive behaviors and depression. I was also taking sudafed but the one for headaches. Sudafed worked very well for both of us. (for our colds). but after that other doctor said that. I never bought it again. > My AS son also takes Albuteral (as needed) he hasn't taken it such a long time. I also had to give it to him this past December as well. not the nebulizer (spelling) but the pump. I never noticed any mood changes with him at an older age. but when he was 4,5 & 6. He would be very high energy. more than what he already was. it did make him so, very active. No change in mood. Now at 10 years old. I didn't see any change in him at all. > > > Nora Bigley <nora9400@...> wrote: > Hi, > > I do not post very often, but I do read many posts. > > My son age 7 (PDD-NOS)has asthma that has not required any medication > for a couple of years until this last December. Guest guest
My son was on albuterol quite a bit when he was younger and it always caused him to get more aggressive, hyper, etc... I take it too sometimes and it does similar things to me! I just recognized that if Dylan had to use his albuterol inhaler or in his nebulizer, he was going to act up. Or maybe a better description was the medicine was going to "jazz" him up for awhile. The benefits outweighed the negatives for us though. I guess it depends on how your son is acting out? I know there's a new type of ambule we use in Dylan's nebulizer now and it doesn't make him quite so jittery but I haven't seen that same type of med our inhaler choices... ( ) Albuterol Hi,I do not post very often, but I do read many posts. My son age 7 (PDD-NOS)has asthma that has not required any medication for a couple of years until this last December. We actually thought he had grown out of it. Anyway he has begun using albuterol again for about 3 weeks and we have seen some behavior that we have not see in a long time. (Aggressive behavior, seems manic) I remember a post about albuterol and the effects on autism and bipolar. Does anyone remember this post or have any information about albuterol side effects with autism or bipolar? I tried to look it up, but could find the post.Thank you,Nora
Guest guest
Nora, a common side effect of Albuterol is jitteriness and anxiety in most everyone. These kids are more susceptible to these effects. Remind the doctor that anxiety is a common part of Asperger's and see if there is another approved medication for his age to control his asthma. Is this due to allergies? If so, maybe an anti-allergy med will be sufficient. Or perhaps Advair would work better for him but it may not have been studies in children. Or perhaps decreasing the albuterol dose or allergy testing to see if something in the home is contributing that can be removed.
