Guest guest
Awesome Job Ruth! Use solid data to answer them and they run out of things to say. When will they have his testing done? Roxanna "Suppose you were an idiot. And suppose you were a member of Congress. But I repeat myself." ~ Mark Twain ( ) Update - 504 Meeting The 504 meeting for my 14yo son with AS went better than expected. The teachers decided to pull my son from class one period a week to meet with all his core teachers and organize and get written down his plan for the week. And once a week they will e-mail me with a report on what he has done and his work for the coming week. They say this can continue next year at the high school (he is 8th grade). And the assistant principal ordered the resource teacher he meets with every morning to go over his agenda to escort him to his office every day if he is not filling out his agenda completely (my son listens to him LOL). And an item was added to the 504 instructing teachers to give him instructions explicitly (we talked about conditional language needs to be avoided and things put in simple declarative sentences). He is doing better; working with fewer prompts, etc. I know personally that he has finally gotten to where he accepts his Asperger rather than being in denial, and I know that will help IMMENSELY. I feel like we are over the hump with him.It was weird though. The teachers kept trying to say they were chunking his assignments and making sure he was using his agenda. Same with the resource teacher. I just kept chanting that his agenda was blank. I had sent them a list that morning of exactly what was in his binder--last agenda entry, list of papers present, list of teacher websites and whether assignments were posted or not, parent website and last due dates/assignments posted there for each class. I did this because they tried to deny I couldn't get information in those places in the past. Anyway, I kept reminding them that his agenda was blank and these things in fact were not happening, and then they came up with a plan.I hope this works!Ruth No virus found in this incoming message.Checked by AVG - www.avg.com Version: 8.0.238 / Virus Database: 270.11.56/2058 - Release Date: 04/14/09 06:17:

I think they are done and are putting together their reports right now. We are meeting Thursday to discuss the results. An informal meeting. The actual IEP meeting has not been scheduled, but the deadline is something like April 27. I have to watch them and make sure they don't turn this informal meeting into the actual IEP meeting (the one to determine need) if all the necessary people decide to show up. That is just something they would do. The children's hospital autism eval is also done, and we have that report. Nothing earth-shaking. It confirms everything though, in case the school district staff lose their minds or something. I guess it is peace of mind. Ruth
