Guest guest
you are absolutly correct. I went back and read your original post and you never did say Psychiatrist. I inferred that. MY BAD! It sounds like you know what you are doing and I didn't mean to come accross harshly I just get really frustrated at the idea of someone like a special ed teacher being the only sourse of information that a parent would use to determine what is going on with their child. Since their are so many mental health disorders that are so similar and can be co-morbid with others I think that it is important to have a complete evaluation done by a Psychiatrist or Psychologist. My son was actually diagonsed by a Psychologist who performed neuro-psycological testing. So I am in no way disparaging Psychologists. My reaction was more from the point of view of School Psychologist who, at least in my school, do not treat or evaluate students. The only PHD is the Head of Special ed and he rarely sees students. So please excuse my assumptions. They can only evaluate children to see if they meet the definition of a disablity according to the IDEA law. > > > > > > > > > > Are you sure about that? My son has only been definitely dx'ed by the psych at school. His regular ped said 'maybe yes, go see the dev. psych'. Dev pysch. said 'maybe yes, go see the school for an eval'. School pysch. said 'definitely yes, welcome aboard...'. So that is the only source of his dx. > > > TJ > > > > > >
