From EXTREMELY PERSONAL EXPERIENCE, here is what we just did for this with our now 14 year old----upped his anti-depressant, upped his ADHD medication, and he just started a new medication (added to his 'cocktail') for mood swings and depression. He is already on .25 mg of risperdahl three times a day. Anyway, you are describing him to a T!!!! He could not remember a thing; now, he is appearing and acting NORMAL (if that is possible)................it is weird.

GLAD TO HEAR OTHER PEOPLE ARE EXPERIENCING WHAT WE DID AT PUBERTY----------did not realize that it was for more than him, so thank you for the confidence / reassurance this morning!! I love knowing it is part of AS / part of him, and not him alone!!! Somehow, that helps me to be realistic and honest about what is happening for him (or something like that).

Hi ,

It sounds like you want to start a visual schedule like you had before and this time, it's not working. The people who are supposed to help you have kept you on a waiting list for over a year? Is that not ridiculous? Can you find somewhere else to go and get some help? Ask around and see. You can't sit around waiting for years when the problem is happening right now.

I'm not sure why the visual schedule is not working now. I think that is the key - try to figure out what is not working for your ds. Does he think it's too babyish? Does he get confused? Does he just not want to follow through? Once you figure out why he isn't using the schedule, you can hopefully fix what isn't working. In general, I would use a visual and written schedule for his age. He may prefer the words only, I don't know! So do what he prefers - ask him. I would also walk him through the schedule step by step until I saw that he could do it on his own. If that bugs him to have you standing around, then encourage him to do a good job on his own so you can stop monitoring him. Sometimes that is a big piece of encouragement! Then praise each step he does on his own!!!

Hey, My son is 10 1/2 - he is extremely tired lately - how do I know what is tiredness, what is AS, and what is early puberty? What do I do for that? I am very concerned. He takes meds. I will ask his doctor too. Being extremely tired could be puberty, getting poor quality sleep or even depression. Definitely ask the doc for a good check up and try to figure out what it is. Then you will know how to "attack" the problem.
