Guest guest
Hi everyone, Sorry I haven't replied to much. I'm going to try to catch up on reading today. I'm sure I won't get through everything, but I want to get through some at least! lol Anyway, I took DS (12) to the doctor about his possible tic and the dr said that yes it is a tic. He said sometimes when ADHD is properly under control with meds, other underlying disorders start to show themselves. First he said there's a strong possibility it's Tourette's (at which point I mentally freaked out) but then later he said that it would also have vocal tics (which he doesn't have). The other possibility is that it's a tic disorder, which he said are usually self limiting and go away in 6 months. So I'm praying for that outcome. I asked if there was anything else it could be, and he said no, which was somewhat discouraging. Although he did say they don't usually bother with meds for them, because the side effects are so horrible. It already seems to be better than it was and the skin around his mouth is less irritated than it was. Anyway, wanted to share.
Guest guest
hi! Sorry I didn't reply sooner ..so much emails...hard to keep up ..you know.. Anyways, I read your post this a.m. My friend's son who is Nt had a tic for a while...and it went away. It was from stress and nervousness...but the more confident he got the better he got...and he would never talk...but he started playing the guitar...loved it and has improved tremendously. What I am trying to say is maybe you son is overly anxious, nervous, sressed right now. But I believe when he becomes more self-confident ..matures,...this will go away. jan p.s I know it is hard not to worry...but try to worry about it for 5 min. a day and then put it away. You worrying is not going to change anything...and he might be feeling your stress. So, worry about it for 5 min. in the early morning and put those thoughts away. Guest guest
, Please don't worry unnecessarily about the tic. My DD (17) has had one for several years now. It is worse when she is tired or stressed. She recently suffered from daily severe migraines and after several different meds, she is on propranolol (usually used for high blood pressure), which is in the same family as Tenex, which has been mentioned here recently. DD has no side effects from the propranolol and it has almost completely eradicated the tic. So not ALL anti tic meds have horrific side effects. Kylie in CA. Guest guest
Thanks for the feedback Kylie I'm trying not to worry about it. It's not life threatening, even if it doesn't go away. We have far bigger issues to worry about ( ) Re: update about tic ,Please don't worry unnecessarily about the tic. My DD (17) has had one for several years now.
