You now I've just contacted someone who claims to have a focus on working with kids with AS (along with a laundry list of others), but it turns out she has experience with a couple of kids...so, yes very frustrating to find that someone who claims an focus on AS actually has little experience. I'll keep looking for the schools that work with AS kids though I've yet to find any...good idea though, thanks!

I don't but an idea I have is to look at the private schools in the area for kids with AS and see if there are any of their school psychologists are in private practice. The one I have now I found this way. What a waste of money working with people who don't really understand AS syndrome. And many say they do and yet don't. Good luck. Thanks so much Jill! This sounds like the perfect starting point for us.

Dear Kim,

There are several good therapists for adolescents with Asperger's at the Jewish Social Services Agency, in both Rockville, MD and Fairfax County, VA. I know the office in Fairfax offers individual as well as group counseling, in the form of a social skills group for teenagers with Asperger's and another one for young adults. My son participated in both groups and now goes to meetings of a social club for young adults with Asperger's and related disorders. Here's the URL of the JSSA: www.jssa.org. If you call them on the phone, they can give you more detailed information. All the services are non-sectarian.

Good luck!

Jill
