We used to have this problem too, except the contaminated tissue

would just be in a heap on the floor!!

One of the first things our son would do (that used to drive me up a

wall) is squeese tooth paste out of the tube. He would do about an

inch on the counter or in the sink. It really irritated us because it

was such a waste. I now know it was OCD related. He was 3 at the

time!! When OCD got full blown at 12,we used to go though lots of

towels too.

Now that he is on medication I don't get asked " is this clean? "

Now if I find a towel on the floor I pick it up, fold it and put it

back into the linen closet.......

Patti: Thanks for replying. Did you ever try therapy/medication to treat this compulsion? How old was your son when he started with the TP overuse and how old is he now? When he was younger we got onto him for not wiping good enough and leaving bm in his underwear. I guess this is the other end of that. He used to flush the toilet several times in a row too, it's always something. lol He also has diarrhea a lot and this doesn't help. I get my son proctofoam 1 percent, have to get a prescription from his doctor. This helps to relieve him. Looking for last minute shopping deals? Find them fast with Search.

Thank you Patti and for your posts. My son does

the same thing. He just turned 9. I thought it was

just an age thing and that it would pass.

My son w/HFA does the same thing and like you I had the opposite problem with him previously. Now I'm on this thing with him like ok wipe a couple of times, then flush, repeat. It's frustrating.

( ) toilet paper

hello, sandra, maria, and patti, thanks for sharing such a delicate issue. My daughter had some of these problems when she was in grade school too. She also had encoprisis which took years to grow out of. (when she would delay a bm for so long that the stool would become so large she could barely pass it) soiling is a classic sign of encoprisis. She had to be re-trained how to use her intestinal muscles to push it out. A good child gastroenterologist is really worth checking out if soiling is a major problem. especially if toileting is being avoided. It can become quite painful. Also, the texture of the paper may be a problem. They may not even be able to explain why they do this. Germ phobia was also part of my daughter's problem. She also would use excessive amounts of TP and clean herself raw. I found that baby-wipes near the toilet helped. It may be prudent to reteach proper wiping procedure(front to back). I still keep babywipes within easy access of

the toilet. You can get the flushable kind. Or , if the sewer pipes get backed up easily, provide a covered trash can for disposal of soiled babywipes. As far as the raw behind, diaper rash ointment like Desitin is especially soothing. Hope this helps. Jerri.sandra jenkins <jenkins472002@...> wrote: Thank you Patti and for your posts. Hi,

We still have this problem with our 13 yr old daughter but it's

usually when she's suffering from constipation and not going to the

toilet properly. She finds it easier to squat, rather than sit, on

the loo but I think she gets the urge to go and does a bit, wipes

herself, but then gets the urge again, does another bit and wipes

herself again and so on. Sorry to be so graphic :)

Occasionally, she's wiped herself and then put the paper in the bin

because she's worried about blocking the loo. Yuk!

I'm thinking some PECS-type pictures in the bathroom might help to

remind her to wait till she's " done " before wiping - it's something I

should have tackled a long time ago sigh... but there always seems to

be so much to teach.

Any other suggestions gratefully received!
