I can't find anything in the Wisconsin laws or statutes that would

require the school to provide out of school tutoring as a part of

special ed. I don't know what state you are in but if you find out

anything let us know.

math but he simply cannot retain what he learns.  I have asked them

pulled out for too many things already.  My suggestion was that it be

provided either after school or at recess.  The in class support

teacher stated that she would work with him after school.  She then

stated that this service cannot be listed as part of the IEP because

the district typically does not provide support after school.  I know

what we are doing.

You don't have to look for something to support your request. You just need to ask them to show why it can't be done. Anytime they deny a service, you should receive "prior written notice" PWN which gives you the answer, in writing. It should tell you what was considered and what was decided as well as why. You should write follow up letters to all meetings and add statements that were made during the meeting. Then request the information pertaining to the problem you are having - i.e. where in the rules it says they can't provide this after school and also that you did not receive your PWN.

It can be done, also. I got ST provided for outside of school hours once because what they had available during school was not sufficient to meet my ds's needs. I probably could have also billed for mileage but my ds refused to go and so it just never came together.

They need to provide whatever he needs to get a free/appropriate public education. If he needs tutoring, then that is a need. It doesn't have to be provided to him via the teacher either. She probably has contract hours as well. He could go to a private tutor or find out if your school is providing tutoring to certain kids already and see if that is possible for him.

Hi All,

I had a question regarding what can be stated in the IEP. My son currently receives in class support for math, he is in the 4th grade. Math is a constant challenge for him . Very interesting...I requested he be tested for speech.....they just did it and so far I have not rec'd anything in writing. I still think he needs it and would love to speak to the Speech therapist myself or see the results. I am going to keep this in mind.

Roxanna,

I am not sure who it is but I will find out and email her. Thank you from the bottom of my heart.

Doctor thinks it is DEPRESSION...he said he has never seen like this....he picked up on it right away. He did order blood work to rule anything else out but he is usually right on with his DX. 's mobile therapist will be here Friday and she will talk to about some of this.

You guys are all angels!

Love
