Guest guest
Hi All, I had a question regarding what can be stated in the IEP. My son currently receives in class support for math, he is in the 4th grade. Math is a constant challenge for him . In addition to having Aspergers, he has auditory processing, severe attention, long & short term memory issues and visual issues as well. With that being said, I have been arguing with my district that in class support is simply not enough. I have a tutor that works with him 2 hours per week on math but he simply cannot retain what he learns. I have asked them to provide reinforcement of math skills. They have argued that he is pulled out for too many things already. My suggestion was that it be provided either after school or at recess. The in class support teacher stated that she would work with him after school. She then stated that this service cannot be listed as part of the IEP because the district typically does not provide support after school. I know this isn't true, but am trying to find a law or something to support my request that it be written into the IEP. I am frustrated because I work with my son everyday and have also hired someone to help him with math and it is still a struggle. I have had independent testing done on my son to further reinforce the point that he needs further assistance, but the child study team simply sees it as he needs more time to learn rather than changing what we are doing. Anyway, your thoughts and ideas are always appreciated. Thanks again, Luz
