Guest guest
it sounds like a very good idea to find a psychitrist that has experience with autism spectrum disoders. Kids like ours are usually started on extremely low does of medication. I had no idea that very high anxiety accounts for so much outburst behavior. I kept thinking I was doing something wrong. I feel really bad now that my daughter suffered so many years with such high anxiety. With a very good and trusted child psychitrist suffering can be reduced. I was certainly shocked when he asked what drug we wanted to try first. Who am I to know that? This is the same man, btw, who told me that my dd doesn't feel love and can only imitate and mirror it back to me, which prompted my panicked post a few weeks ago. He answered " I don't know " to a very large number of my questions. We have a recommendation for another doctor, one who specializes in ASD. I don't think my dh and I would be very surprised if the dx changed to PDD -NOS. We have an appt. next month. We'll see. > > Thank you, also, for all the information on the meds. I hate to medicate her but I am heartbroken watching her struggle. I know she's trying so hard to behave but she just can't seem to control it. We've read all these wonderful things about diets, too, and we're trying that. We figure it certainly can't hurt anything. > > I am so grateful to all of you! > > in FL >
Guest guest
Hi ! Thanks for sharing your heart. I have been there with my son when he was younger...wanting so badly to do the right thing but not having the ability to do so. I have often said that I just wish people could see his heart! Meds. have made a huge difference in his life and how he feels about himself. We've also switched our diet to all natural (no preservatives, artificial colors, or artificial flavors). It's healthier for our whole family and I think it has definitely helped Hunter's behavior. I think you are right to seek a new doctor. A good one will ask for your input but not ask you to choose a med./treatment. Above all trust your heart...you know your daughter better than anyone else, therefore you are the expert on her. A mother's instincts are usually right. Blessings on your journey!
