Keeping husbands amused in waiting rooms really can be as difficult as with kids. I never had to worry about these things with my older ones and one is an ADHD boy.

Aaahhh, yes - those dreaded waiting times - Fortunately for me, altho' I'm not overly happy about what I use to keep him controlled, is he LOVES his game-boy ... actually anything electronic!! So, he either goes up to the desk and asks for a video (lots of Ped. offices have TVs/DVDs in the waiting room), or we bring his GameBoy, or if possible, we read a book together. When he was younger, I needed to have one of those "toddler leashes" as he would dart away SO fast .... it was the only thing that ensured he stay at my side. Good luck! When starts to have a meltdown in the waiting room I have asked the nurses if we can wait in one of the examining rooms and if they can, they will. I play games with him otherwise like I'll start to describe an animal and he has to guess which it is.

Thanks! My son loves video games too but they frustrate him when he doesn't do perfect the first time. I have to keep a close eye on him too. Hopefully he outgrows it soon but right now I have him enrolled in Project Lifesaver due to his tendency to wander off wherever we are including at home.

Click the link below or cut and paste it into your browser to see one

of my favorite kid games. Then read what I have to say about it

below.

Believe it or not I used to carry Spider Stompin' around with us.

It's not really very big and we decided it wasn't really all that

noisy compared to my impatient child. There are no parts to lose or

break, nothing anyone could choke on. Of course if other kids want

to play it can become problematic, but usually it was when I was

having an appointment and had to bring my son along that required

this. It's a great thing for sensory integration, I think. It's

best played with shoes on. It's extremely hard to find these games

now. I bought mine at toys r us for $35 and within a few months it

was on clearance for $9! On ebay the prices are close to the

clearance price so really, not bad. If you want to make it non-

competitive just set it on " countdown " and see how many spiders

everyone can get before the timer runs out. LOL. We all used to

love playing the stupid thing. I can't understand why it! ! ! didn't

sell better or why it's impossible to get now except on ebay. Weird.

After reading several post on this topic, and responding, I just realized --- without realizing it, that I had the same problem...But not in the waiting room. it was in the doctors office. 'while waiting for the doctor'. I would take both my kids at the same time. one would be touching everything and the other would be annoying everybody. While waiting in the exam room, I would get a pack of the crayons that I got from the dollar store, and I'd let them draw on the paper on the exam table. they both loved that. it also caught on and the medical staff would leave some in each room. My husband outlines our sons body on the paper they put on the exam table and lets our son do the face and color the clothes.

I was going to suggest outlining the kids on the paper hehe , then I thought some of you might think it looked like a crime scene outline so I deleted that part...funny!
