Guest guest
Hey moms or dads, I have seen some postings about food allergies and sensitivites. When my son was first dx with autism I first started reading and reading. What I read most about was the food he was eating. Which his diet was so limited that I thought how am I going to get anything else into him. He is so craves sugars. I did have a plus he would only really drink water. We first started with weaning milk. As I first started the diet he was hand flapping when excited, finger flicks when trying to communicate, would be so high energy that he could not sit still, could not focus and other usual autism symptoms. we tried week one and no results. Week two no results. Still having horrible constipation, dark circles under eyes, not sleeping well etc. So we took a break and let him have his old diet. A month later I tried again. Within the month of going back to the old diet I still did not let him have reg milk I put him on rice milk and soy milk. Month 2- we started to phase out completly of milk products in bread, snacks etc. The hardest was prob icecream. We got dairy free icecream. After one month of just doing this we started noticing that he was not hand flapping as much, his hyperness was calming down. His tactile dsyfunction was starting to improve, his speech that is the biggy. He no longer twitched in the face when he talked. He focus is still a big issue but I can tell he is getting a little better. He can at least sit still to eat a gfcf muffin now. He will want to sit at the table with mom and dad to eat now.So after a lot of trial and error he has improved. I am feeling blessed for at least those results. Over all the speech is what improved the most. For sleep we added melatonin wow! I got to sleep!! he still wakes up but not near as much. We still let him have some wheat. We make him gfcf muffins and things like that, but wheat is a hard one. I mentioned also that he loves sugar. I started to give him all organitic sweets even if I had to make them myself. Slowly he is getting better about eating more of other things. He was no meat, veggies, fruit. Now he will eat watermelon, I make gfcf milkshakes and put in pureeed apples, pears, peaches, etc He loves it and he is getting fruit. Meat wise he will now eat chicken, turkey, gf hotdogs (sodium nitrate free)celery juice a natural nitrate is added. Although he has a sensory thing with the food, that is why I think he limits so much. Just phaseing out his preservitive and additive sugar foods I feel like he is getting healthier already. To all u parents out thier don't give up and keep going. It can be trying. At least there is things we can try to get our kids healhly again. We do vitamins and mileral supplements to replace vitamins he may be loosing from foods that he cannot have. Well just thought I would put my imput out there LOL! Have a great day everyone and God Bless!!
Guest guest
I am so glad that you’ve had success with this !! I have to say, we’ve looked into diets for my DS, but because of his life threatening nut allergy, we are at SUCH a loss. I can’t buy most of the bulk flours at the health food store to make GF stuff, because we can’t guarantee it wasn’t ground on the same equipment as the nut flours. Most of the stuff IN the health food store has nuts IN it. We can cut out other things, but we’re really stuck because of his allergies. Even most of the dairy free ice creams have nuts in them, or are manufactured in a facility that also processes nuts, so we can’t buy it. This post of yours, however, has reminded me that perhaps it’s time to try no dairy for my youngest. He’s had an allergy of SOME kind since he was little, and for a long time I wondered if it was milk… I’m seeing some behaviors and such with him (And he’s NT), and I’m wondering if milk/dairy is the culprit Thanks for reminding me to get back on that!! I hope your positive results continue! That must be SO wonderful! Good for you for sticking with it! =) From: [mailto: ] On Behalf Of laughlove3 Sent: Wednesday, April 29, 2009 11:30 AM Subject: ( ) GFCF improvement has been made Hey moms or dads, I have seen some postings about food allergies and sensitivites.
