Welcome to the list! =) Your reaction to all the info is typical-

overload and confusion. Please know that you can take your time sifting

through the info, you do not have to rush into a decision either way. Have

you searched the archives yet? THere is a lot of info concerning Prevnar

that may interest you. Also, look into the conflicts of interests within the

CDC, FDA, and pharmaceutical companies.

Here's some links I hope will help you in your search:

Hi Barb

Welcome to our little " community " of soapers & toiletry

makers. I'm sure

you'll fit in nicely and enjoy our group. We're very

informal here so you'll

see posts regarding things other than just " business " . We

don't stand on

formality here. (hehe) We're more like a bunch of friends

who bounce things

off each other whether it's business related or not. It

could just be the weather

that we want to " moan " about. So don't feel you have to just

keep it business

related.

I live in the Mohawk Valley (just east of Utica) in a small

town called Ilion. I do

M & P soaps for now along with bath salts, fizzers, lotions,

etc. I've been doing

it for about 2 yrs now and am constantly learning (or

trying) new things. I sell

to a few stores locally, do retail from home and have stuff

in a consignment shop.

I don't have a website and don't know if I'll ever go that

route but who knows what

the future holds. I'm married with a 27 yr old daughter

expecting our first grandchild

in August and I have a 14 yr. old daughter at home. Yuck,

going thru the teen years

again!!

Again, WELCOME.

Hello I am new to this list and a soapmaker in the Finger lakes

area. I am not unfamiliar with Central NY though, I grew up in the

Rochester area and I went to college in Buffalo. As a matter of

fact we *might* be relocating to Rochester in the next few months.

Don't know if that will happen, but I really sort of like the idea.

I have been making soap and toiletries for about 2 years now. I

love the learning aspect of it, you know trying different oils,

adding scents, adding colors, that type of thing. Right now I am

experimenting with surfacants for shampoos and such. I think my

favorite part (aside from having great soap) is that I can continue

to learn with this craft.

Now personal info, I am a mother of three. Two boys 10 and 7

(almost 8) and a girl who will be two in May. I think their

favorite creation of mine are bath fizzes ...........figures

right? :-)

I am excited to find a local group of soapmakers.

Hi Barb --welcome :-)

I grew up in Rochester and now live south of Ithaca. I am relatively new to

soaping but love to read what everyone is up to. I have only made CP soap

for pleasure and gifts.

Oh me too! I love the learning aspect of it!

It is so much fun and you get to create useful things.

Welcome to the group! This is a really nice group, very helpful and fun too.

I am in the Binghamton area in a little town called Greene.

I don't get up to Rochester very often since my father moved to Detroit area

from Fairport.

Welcome Barb! My name is Jen, and i mainly lurk on this list...it's a

great place to be though! You went to school in Buffalo? Which one?

I grew up in Niagara Falls and worked in Buffalo for several years, so

I like hearing about HOME...lol! I live south of Ithaca, but my

husband and I often talked about moving to Rochester as well...I've

always loved it there. Another reason I had to jump in here was

because I was wondering if you're barbc from the soapdish forum? If

so, I'm fallchild, and we've had several conversations! If not, then

HI!!!! and welcome!!!!

Welcome to the group, Tricia. I commend you for taking in your

daughter and her boys, it’s obvious she needs help at this time in her life,

and its wonderful of you to help her :) I look forward to learning more about

you and your family, your unschooling approaches, and small farm life!! Sounds

like A LOT of fun to me !!

As for sensitive issues, I believe we have ALL brought one of

those to the group at one time or another, and rest assured, we aren’t here to

judge, only to listen, comfort, understand and help out as best as we can, even

if it’s just in supporting each other. I don’t believe ANY of us has all the

answers, we are all just doing our very best :)

Take care, and write to us more soon!

=)

Tricia welcome to the group. You can also ask to communicate

privately on email to one of our group members.

Alabama is very beautiful. I attended a health

retreat in a small mountain town in north Alabama (Mentone)

before my daughter was born.

So sorry to hear about your daughter's health issues too.

and thank you for your warm welcome!

It really is beautful in Alabama and sometimes I take it for granted,so thanks

for reminding me I really should stop and smell the roses once in awhile.:-D

We have cows, pigs, horses, chickens, rabbits, cats and as my aspie calls them k-9

Americans (dogs):-)we also raise a large garden. And it is alot of fun for us

all.

Our approach to unschooling is very simple,I follow their lead, whatever they are

interested in I help them to learn all I can on it which then leads them to

become interested in other things. We don't do any curriculum at all.We have been

unschooling all of their lives.I have never sat down and done a formal lesson on

any subject.

If you would like to know more just ask,I am passionate about unschooling!

My daughter's doctor told her not to have another baby after Elijah was born

(because of the lupus) and has been very sick since giving birth to her 2nd

child. So I have raised them all of their lives, but I am Nanna and dd is Mom.

I would love to know about your lives,if you'd like to share.;-)

Our 11 year old daughter would love your animals we have a mini lop

rabbit, a guiena pig, mice, a dog and fish. Because our daughter loves

animals so much we spend the weekends in the summer at a RV campground in

northern NJ. The campground is on a farm and she loves

to feed the animals. Our daughter has not enjoyed school. She is

more a scientist type and she likes to study things and the pace

of school overwhelms her.

I drove once from Birmingham to Destin Beach area of Alabama, I was surprised

Alabama had such nice beaches. We can drive from the

mountains in NJ and get to the New Jersey Shore in about 3.5 hours.

Parts of the NJ shore are like the Destin beach area in Alabama

other areas are small victorian towns with B & B's. We like to go

to the small town beaches so our daughter can spend the weekend

walking around the little town.

We have lots of homeschoolers in NJ. My sister in law homeschools

her 4 kids. Her kids work from a curriculum in the morning and

they are done by 12noon. I hope it is worth the stress

we have with school (and math) to keep her in school. If we

did home school the only home schooling we could do is unschooling.

My daughter has a strong will to follow her interests.

She may do well in all areas except math (she has a LD in math).

> We have cows, pigs, horses, chickens, rabbits, cats and as my aspie calls them k-9

So sorry about your daughter's health.

The main struggle we have had with our daughter is with her almost

daily outbursts when something is changed or doesn't

go as planned. She would enjoy life more if friends and family were

more predictable. It's never predictable enough so we are

coping as best we can with keeping her socializing anyway.
