Guest guest
I saw a school in Massachusetts that looked to be a really good school. It seems I have seen lots of schools there for children that are Autistic. I was looking into them in case public school does not work out. I will look for the school in particular and post it tomorrow for you. Of course not sure where you live and if a move is possible in my case a move is not possible. Anyway hang in there. I ordered the road map to success for the ADHD I think it might help my aspergers son it may help you to.Ada Tickle From: wedgetam <wedgetam (DOT) com>Subject: SV: Re: ( ) school phobia and antispychotics Date: Tuesday, August 5, 2008, 2:41 PM he was in a regular school up until 2nd grade. then he ended up in a really good special education school it was hard the first week becuase they dragged him in everday kicking and screaming. He eventaully got over it and started taking the bus with no problems. For two years he went to the school and if he did get fearful it would take about a week to get him to go back. I would say he moved up to a new class with more threatening kids and that was the last straw for him. The school tried an intervention after months of him not being in school, the board of education involved CPS,we went to many doctors, and eventually nothing changed. Months passed I waited for him to be ready to return we went one day they came and grabbed him out of the car, and dragged him into school. I thought he was okay so I left. I found out later that it had led to an altercation stemming from a war of words and he ended up with two guys sitting on top of him to restrain him. After that I never made him go back. His therapist said that they cant help him his case is too severe, but he doaes still see a psychiatrist. He was diagnosed with aspergers but leaning more towards autism, he is high functioning, ODD. The school pyschiatrist feared that if we didn't get jack out he would become agoraphobic. The antipsychotics offered have been abilify, and maybe risperdal. There were alot of kids in his school taking abilify. It has put a strain on my marriage because my husband doesn't believe any of this, so i kind of don't know what to do. I had signed him up for the DDD in the past, I also tried a crisis intervention program but they could only come to take him tp a pychiatric facility, They have also suggested calling the police and have him taken to school in his pajamas. I just don't know how far I am willing to go to traumatize my child.
Guest guest
I wonder if the sylvan learning center has anything? Just a thought? Or any of the tutor programs may have or do something for children that need in home tutoring for school. Just another thought. I have not checked into it just wondering if anyone has yet and what they found. Ada TickleFrom: <sunshine369@...>Subject: SV: Re: ( ) school phobia and antispychotics Date: Monday, August 11, 2008, 7:05 PM I have 2 nieces that went to cyber charter schools in PA they hated it because their mom (my brother's ex wife) did not do much to keep them "in the loop" socially and was not involved with them and provided no activities for them, but it was convenient for the mom to travel with her boyfriend. But yes, there are many parents who cyber school, and I look at it as a way to keep them home, but not have to "teach" - heck your kid's "aide" that would be at school with them can make sure they stay on task during the day to do the work. It seems like a nice compromise between brick and morter school and homeschooling. Google "cyber schools" for your state, and see what is there. I believe there is ALWAYS a way, it just may not be the way you expect, or harder than you think or make you stretch in ways you didn't think you could! > > > > > From: wedgetam <wedgetam@ .> > > > > > Subject: ( ) school phobia and antispychotics > > > > > > > > > > Date: Monday, August 4, 2008, 12:19 PM > > > > > > > > > > My son is 12 and has been out of school for approx. 1 year > and > > a > > > > half > > > > > related to panic attacks and school phobia. Guest guest
I just got a tutor for my son in math....the manager picked the teacher for my son after she spent an hour speaking with me and him. She matched us up. And, the tutor who worked with gifted children and ADHD children spent her weekend learning about Aspergers. I was impressed. I know at the Sylvan School they charge an assessment fee ...I did not have to pay anything and the tutor comes to the house.
