Guest guest
Hi , whew, long meeting! Glad you feel things went well and I, too, hope the depakote helps and kicks in soon! Did the psych say how long it would take to notice a difference if the med is helping? > > The meeting lasted three hours and was attended by my husband, son, myself, and the home based counselor as well as the dr. My son was diagnosed with AS, bipolar, and adhd. He will be starting on depakote tomorrow. Hopefully within a few months my son will be able to function in public. I am excited at that possibility but also worried that nothing will change for him. If he is able to start functioning better we are going to throw a congratulations party for him (with just the three of us). >
Guest guest
Unfortunately he said to give it a month. Once the depakote is at a good level for him the dr wants to add an ADHD medicine. He said we should get a different result than we did before the depakote. I was told my son should never have been put on an adhd medicine first. I am glad this dr took his time with everything. Of course there was all the forms that had been filled out beforehand that the dr had read before the appointment.Hopefully we will see results sooner. Guest guest
My stepson also did very well on Depakote. He also experienced weight gain with it. My sister was also on Depakote (for epilepsy not bipolar) the only side effect she experienced was also weight gain. Good luck. and Matt <lisa_leonard@...> wrote: Thanks. Guest guest
I was nervous about giving it to my son because my daughter was put on it for seizures but it gave her unbearable headaches so after a few days she was taken off of it. My son is doing fine with it. Re: ( ) We went to the psychiatrist Glad you got a dx's for your son & meds. is on Depakote now for the last 5 yrs. Just watch for weight gain.
