Hi everyone,

My son andrew is 6. He was recently diagnosed with Inattentive ADHD and was put on Adderall XR 5mg capsules to help. It seemed to be doing the job and his teacher started saying that he was focusing better and getting his work done. Well while taking the med we noticed that he started having some rapid blinking or uncontrollable blinking. We always just chalked it up to allergies because, like me, he inherited by bad allergies. My eyes have been really really dry lately so I kinda thought his might be bothering him that way too. I'd ask him if his eyes itched, he'd say no. I'd ask if they were burning, he would say no. One day when my mom went to pick him up from school my son's teacher put him in the car and she asked if he did the eye thing at home and if we had noticed it. We said yes and that we had been wondering if it was allergies. She looked at my mom and said it's the ADHD med. So

I brought this to my son's drs attention and told him what she had said. He first asked if there were any other tics and if he did it when he was not on the med. I said that yes he did still do the tic but not nearly as bad as when he was on the med. They were no other tics going on and no history of seizures or anything like that. We decided or rather I decided to try a different med to see if that would help stop the tics or keep them uder control. So now instead of Adderall XR we are going to try Focalin XR in a 5mg tablet. I hope that this works but if not then we'll keep trying till we get it right. Anyway, I was kinda wondering if anyone else's child or children has eye tics or had eye tics while on a med and what caused them and why your child has them. Any help would help. Thanks a bunch. :)

I was told by my sons md that if a person has a tic or the tendancy of a tic

stimulant meds will make the tic worse or bring out tics. We discussed this

because there is tourettes in my family and therefore a risk that he would

develope tics when put on the meds. For what its worth, my 2 nephews and 1 neice

all had very noticable tics around that age. They all have outgrown them as

they got older (or if not outgrew, they are now so mild they are not noticable).
