Guest guest
Lyn, My son has been going to Helping Hands camp for the past 5 years. We live near town, and the camp is near Lenhartville at the Robin Hill campground, off route 78. It's probably about an hour from burg. The camp is sleep-over, from Sunday 6 p.m. until Friday at noon. The children/adults have a wide range of disabilities ranging from mild to severe. About 1/2 are in wheelchairs. The ratio of staff to campers is typically 1:2, however this can vary. The cost is $450/session. The camp sessions (n Lenhartville) start soon and then the camp moves to the NJ shore for the rest of the summer, starting the week of July 21st. Craig usually goes to 2 of the camp sessions and then one of the shore sessions. Helping Hands is from Bechtelsville, PA and the director is McGinty. There is a pool for daily swimming and pond for paddle boats. The campers sleep in a large house with the girls on one side and boys on the other; my biggest concern is that the building has fans but no AC, but the heat doesn't bother Craig. There are always two counselors on overnight-awake duty. Craig loves this camp and talks about it all year. If you're interested in more information, please let me know. I know the shore sessions are filled, but there may be slots available in the camp sessions. Bev mom to Craig, 16, Magenis Syndrome
Guest guest
When Jon was little he would go to DAY CAMP through our Mental Health Clinic. He loved it. THey would go fishing, bowling, hiking, amusment parks etc..twice a week then the other 3 days they would have peer group. He is going through more testing right now because it is suspected that he is dealing with ODD and ADHD also. What are some other activities besides swimming and horseback riding? Thanks!
