I currently live in NH, just moved here from , TX (plano school

district if you're curious). So far my experience has been that TX is

the pits for special education. We had a good school there after 5

months of pure misery. We were the lucky ones. My son didn't get all

the serivces he needed, but at least he was reasonably happy and was

getting good social skill coaching. He needed OT but didn't get any

from the school. He took away his ST the last year because they felt

they were covering pragmatics in social skills classes, which is

probably true. I didn't fight it. I hated leaving that school,

though, because my sweet boy had so many friends who cried and cried

when he left. You have no idea how bittersweet that was. I had been

at the school to fill out some paperwork, it was 's last day. I

was waiting around in the office for someone to come back from lunch

when my son's regular education 5th grade teacher came in the room

bawling her HEAD off. Then she told me why. It was wonderful and

terrible. had gone around the room and said goodbye to each child

with a hug and a comment about what he would miss. It was really quite

an amazing thing for an asperger child. Perhaps a bit over-the-top in

terms of what a typical 5th grader would do, but everyone there knew

him and understood his quirks. By the end of it and all the kids

and all the 5th grade teachers were crying. I finished my paperwork,

went to my car, called my husband to tell him the story and cried all

the way home. It was just too painful. However, despite this

beautiful experience, getting there was too difficult for me to ever

want to live in TX again. Maybe when my kids have graduated. I had to

fight to hard in the beginning to get what we needed and it was nearly

the end of me and my family. New Hampshire has been a pretty easy

transition and keeps getting better and better with zero fighting from

me. My understanding is that some towns are better than others, but I

expect nobody has to fight has fiercely for services here even in the

schools that aren't as good.

's first school experiences were in County land. They

were much better than TX but maybe not quite as good as Bedford, NH.

I am from Bolingrook IL outside of Chicago. Illinois is one of the

very worst states for special needs. Last I heard we were ranked 48

out of 50. My son is 5 and has not been formally diagnosed with

Aspergers but he has many of the traits. When my son has his

reevaluation, I have asked them to test for Aspergers.

I am from Naples, Florida. Our son, age 11 has Asperger's and was diagnosed less than 2 eyars ago. ADHD was his first diagnosis since it is more obvious. His Asperger's is said to be mild, but is very much there. Gagliardi <ginagagliardi@...> wrote: I am from Bolingrook IL outside of Chicago. Illinois is one of the very worst states for special needs. Have any of the other Milwaukee parents used Kathleen Woody, Psy.D.? My son has an appointment for an evaluation with Dr Woody on Feb 11th. Any other local resources that you would recommend? My pediatrician recommended Children's Hospital, but I haven't heard anything good about their clinic. My son's school recommended Dr Woody. I'm in Oak Creek, btw.

Hi , I don't know anything about Dr. Woody, but I have not heard good things about Childrens Hospital in Milwaukee with regards to Autism. I don't know how old your son is, but have you contacted in take for the WI Early Autism Project. My son was initially seen at Childrens Hospital in Milwaukee and they were not helpful at all. Childrens told us our son simply had anxiety. Our son's pediatrician urged us not accept that and to pursue an evaluation through the WI Early Autism Project. Our son has had almost three years of ABA Therapy through the WI Early Autism Project and I don't know where he would be if we had just accepted what Children's Hospital told us. Here is the WI Early Autism Website. www.wiautism.com I have also heard good things about Dr. Greg

Hintz, but I have no personal experience with him. He is a psychologist in the Kenosha area. Hope this helps.
